Is love a selfish emotion? You are in love when you feel yourself good with that person. As long as that person interests you and makes you feel "good" you're in love...
If that feeling disappears... most of the time relationships end... do u think so?? "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

Love the THE most selfish emotion.
You love someone when they live up to YOUR deepest values, whatever those values may be. Imagine a selfless love--you love your mate as an act of charity! LOL...nope... Fear is the mind-killer.

i think some people love the other person for who they are, regardless of whether they can 'have' that person. it's unconditional love. this feeling doesn't 'disappear'
the kind that does disappear is the feeling you have for another person because of how that someone else makes YOU feel. so, it's not about the other person at all, but rather the effect they have on you two different things.

Yes, it is.
Love is always conditional, if it were not, what would there be to love? Think about it.

I have said many times, love is not a never-ending emotion.
Staying in love is a choice.

There is "love" and "in love" both are beautiful but I do not see them as selfish!

Never assume that selfish == bad. This is a popular belief, but it is false. Fear is the mind-killer.

OF COURSE IT IS...
love is a feeling that you have for you, this is sometimes evident when you love one that does not love you. DO YOU STOP LOVING THEM??? it don't matter, do it? whut i'm sayin is that there may come a time when you have kids that loose love for you, you will love them anyway, because your love of them is good for you, HOW SELFISH IS THAT SHIT... Starbuck, there are several kinds of love -- most conditional, but some not (which is EXTREMELY rare at best), I think.
Some orgers' view on love (including mine) are included on this thread: http://www.prince.org/msg...msg_488258 Tell me what you think. [This message was edited Tue Mar 25 9:04:46 PST 2003 by Lammastide] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I agree...completely... Although there are obviously exceptions to this, parents can and do love their children unconditionally...it's not a feeling that dissipates over time due to "familiarity" or "boredom"...it's not dependent upon what that child does for them or does, period...the child's mere existence is enough to cause the deep and eternal love the parent feels...the connection they share ensures the existence of the love they have for one another, no matter the length of time or the bumps that lay in the road ahead... Though far, far less likely to happen, I do feel two people can find one another and experience that same type of deep, fulfilling connection...only along with it comes attraction and arousal...the love they feel can last forever, and can survive all the obstacles life throws in their direction...And as XxAxX said, that love can exist even if one person can't "have" the other...it's a mistake to think that we are only capable of loving someone who is loving us just the way we desire in return...

Yes, I agree. When love is present it just is. Also, Love is not conditional. It is the people involved that instill the conditions. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

If that feeling disappears... most of the time relationships end... do u think so?? I don't consider that love... If that were love I'd have been in love many times and I've not been. I look at that as sort of a lust of the other person... the want, the desire, etc... but not love.

Staying in love is a choice. I don't agree with that. I think once you truly fall in love and truly love another, you will always have that love for them. I don't think it's something you can choose to do.

I've known lots of shellfish. As near as I can tell, they do not have emotions. I've never known any clams to fall in love with other clams, and crabs really aren't very affectionate either. So I would say no!

Next Valentines' day, tell your mate that your love for them is a selfless emotion--that they don't stir anything within YOU, and that your love for them just an act of charity. Fear is the mind-killer.

it depends on how one defines love. much of what is discussed above, i would define as infatuation and/or attraction, which, for me, is wholly a different entity.
love by my definition is not selfish. but, that's just me. ------------------------------------------------

Love is not selfish, Lust is selfish, if ur in love with selfish motives, then it's most likely your in lust, when your in love with somebody your willing to make that person happy other then ur self, at least that's how it works for me, I'd rather see you happy baby, ain't that what loves about ?

selfish does not equal greedy/petty.
you may give and give and give, for example, to your child. but you won't give the same to some strange child across town, because they are not as great of a value to YOU. Fear is the mind-killer.

All emotions are selfish.
Selfishness and innocence walk hand in hand through the age of childhood. Then we learn Selflessness and deceit, and we know we have grown up. strike me down with all of your hatred, and your journey to the darkside will be complete.
