Une nouvelle amie / The New Girlfriend (2014) - A young woman makes a surprising discovery about the husband of her late best friend.

This charming gender-bender reminded me a lot of Pedro Almodóvar's work. 3.5/5

Her (2013)

I'm regretting missing this in the theater. A quirky effort from Spike Jonze that's still grounded in our current reality of wedded bliss to our devices. Scarlett Johannsen's never been better, and neither has Joaquin Phoenix. Most "romantic" films can't match their intimate, sensual chemistry here. Amy Adams and Chris Pratt are great as well.

L'ombre des femmes / In the Shadow of Women (2015) - Pierre and Manon are a pair of poor documentary makers, who scrape by with odd jobs. When Pierre meets young trainee Elisabeth, he falls for her, but wants to keep Manon at the same time.

The plot is nothing special and I felt the resolution was very underwhelming. Clotilde Courau was very good as Manon though and I did like very much how the black and white cinematography captured the streets of Paris. 3/5

The Forbidden Room 4 stars out of 5

Director Guy Maddin might have too many good ideas in this crazy movie, as the middle part gets a little bogged down, but it all comes together nicely in the end. Super imaginative.

What a beautiful, wonderful movie !

If you love food, music, sunny places and roadmovies (and beautiful women), then this one is for you. This is one movie that I will definitely buy on DVD.

Chef Carl Casper quits his job after a food critic writes a bad review that goes viral. He buys a food truck and goes on the road with his little son.

It will probably look VERY dated in a couple of years due to Twitter being a big part of the storyline but hey, so what?

Some would call this simple food porn but I think there are worse examples of food porn.

I quit cooking a couple of years ago due to the overwhelming mass of hobby cooks on TV but this movie inspired me to cook again.

I don´t want to spoil it for those who haven´t watched this yet so I won´t write any more than this.

One of the best feelgood movies I´ve seen in a long time.

Five out of five stars! Highly recommended!

I really have no idea what to say about this one.

I read some terrible reviews before watching it, and I must say it´s not as bad as they say it is but it´s not really good either. It never really managed to get my attention despite its interesting look. The visuals are really special, albeit a tad too dark and greenish for me.

Ryan Gosling wrote and directed it but he´s not starring in it, and he called this a modern fairytale, which is probably true.

Reminded me a bit of Wild At Heart by David Lynch. Seems like he was heavily inspired by David Lynch.

It´s okay for what it is, and I like how Ryan Gosling managed to turn his personal demons or background history into this little fairytale, and maybe people from Detroit would love this movie (or maybe hate it, because it´s not REALLY a fair portrayal of Detroit) but anyway...I´ll give it two out of five stars, maybe three.

** / *****

I should probably give it another chance someday in the future...but it´s such a slooooow movie, and you always feel like you seen this before. That´s how much it reminds me of early David Lynch.

I actually feel a bit bad for Ryan Gosling that critics lambasted this movie that strongly but it´s really a difficult and at times boring movie.

I almost stopped watching halfway through, it was so unnerving. I'm glad I stayed with it, but I was gutted at the end. I don't have enough people to discuss it with!

It has been said that many of the scenes of Scarlett driving around in the van were filmed Candid Camera style with the locals not recognizing her as an actress.

I believe I also read the deformed character she picked up was not wearing a mask. That is his real face.

Yes, I viewed the DVD and in the Extras section they talk about the cameramen having to be extremely quiet in the back of Scarlett's van while they filmed the unsuspecting locals with tiny hidden cameras. And the deformed character was real, he had appeared on film in one other obscure movie. But he didn't really know what Scarlett was going to ask him, so his answers would appear genuine. I had trouble watching it too, starkitty, I started it twice before switching it off, then I finally watched it all the way through. I think the act of confusing the viewer was intended to make the ending that much more shocking.

Grandma 5 stars out of 5

This is the role of a lifetime for Lily Tomlin, who plays the grandma of a teen grandaughter who needs an abortion. They spend the day together trying to hustle up the $640 needed for the proceedure. With Sam Elliot, the Cowboy Stranger from The Big Lebowski.

At the urging of my son, I watched "Dazed and Confused" this weekend. "Dad, you have GOT to watch this!" he said. "It's about the high school calss of '77. That's YOUR class! You'll love every minute of it!"

And I might have loved every minute of it - if I'd watched it in, say, 1979. But as a 56-year-old watching a movie about a bunch of 17-year-olds who did nothing besides smoke cigarettes and pot, all I could think was "Man, I am glad I'm not in high school any more".

The movie has absolutely no plot, save for some graduating 8th-graders trying to avoid getting "initiated" into high school through the administration of paddling by nimrods like Ben Affleck. Most of the movie is a low-grade rip-off of "American Graffitti". These kids do have some cool cars, though.

The soundtrack is right on the mark, too. Actually, the only good thing about the movie for an old fart like me was the memories each of the songs brought back. The songs used were the exact same songs we cruised to.

This was Affleck's first movie, and it was also Matthew McConaughey's first movie (that I know of). Pretty much the first thing McConaughey said was "Alright, alright, alright" which he's been saying for about 30 years now.

I'm in the wrong age group to like this movie but if you're a very young stoner that wants to know how things were for very young stoners in the 70's, you'll like it.

I give it 2 Chevy Chevelles out of 5 Chevy Chevelles, because there were two Chevy Chevelles in the movie.

I found it ironic that a movie about going against the grain was extremely conventional. Pleasant, sure and I did like it myself, but I expected it to be better.

My favorite food movie is Eat Drink Man Woman.
