Eddie Murphy Awarded Twain Prize for Humor . good news for eddie murphy fans - eddie won the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. he's lookin good too! . from: http://www.nytimes.com/20....html?_r=0 . . WASHINGTON — The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor celebrates humorists who broach thorny social issues. Eddie Murphy, who accepted the award at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts here on Sunday, fit the bill in his acceptance speech with a few Bill Cosby jokes. . “He should do one show where he just comes out and talks crazy now,” Mr. Murphy said of Mr. Cosby, the comedian who won the same prize in 2009 and has been accused by dozens of women of sexual assault. Mr. Murphy even dusted off his old Cosby voice and imagined what Mr. Cosby might say on a comedy show. . “I would like to talk to some of the people who feel that I should give back some of my” trophies, Mr. Murphy intoned in character. . The ceremony’s roster included Trevor Noah, the new host of “The Daily Show,” who called comedy “a pressure valve of sorts.” . “It acts as a place where people can come together and acknowledge that things are happening around them,” Mr. Noah continued, “and then get to address those issues in a space that hopefully doesn’t turn it into a negative experience. I think that’s really a powerful position that a lot of comedians have.” . The evening included stalwart comedians telling jokes and stories about Mr. Murphy, 54, while revisiting highlights of his career. . Arsenio Hall, the comedian and talk show host, recalled the time he and Mr. Murphy were practicing for the film “Coming to America” and walked around New York dressed as the older characters they played in a barbershop scene, striking up conversations with random people in the characters’ voices. “We ran into an old lady, like 80 years old,” he said. “And Eddie started hitting on her!” . Tracy Morgan, the comedian who was severely injured and in a coma after a car accident in 2014, told of his best memory of Mr. Murphy. . “First thing out of my coma, I spoke to Eddie on the phone,” Mr. Morgan said. “He was the first one to make me laugh. And that’s why I love him.” . more at link above

What the hell happened to Eddie Murphy? He has appeared in some of the best comedy films of all time. Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming To America, 48 Hrs. His stand up shows, Raw and Delirious are borderline genius. How is this the same man who later appeared in crap like Daddy Day Care and that other one he was in where he couldn't talk in it. Or Haunted Mansion. Or Dr. Doolittle. Or the many films he wears fat suits in. He needs to go back to stand up comedy and rediscover his balls.

Must be a tribute to commemorate Back To the future because back on the 21st October 1985, Eddie Murphy was fucking hilarious. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Why do you think Eddie keeps turning down major Touring deals? He won't even do a special for HBO or any Network regardless of the check. He'd PACK stadiums in all 50 states..Make more CRAZY money on top of what he already has..Sometimes I wonder if he ever liked Stand-up...I'm serious, maybe Eddie wanted to be an Actor/Singer the entire time and he sorta fell into stand-up....

Well I just always looked at it as him really just doing what he wants to do because as you said, it's not like he needs the money or anything. He doesn't NEED to do standup at all....but I'm not sure if it's a matter of him disliking it or not. I just see Eddie as this person whereas when he feels like doing something he does it and when he doesn't, he doesn't. I think one day he'll wake up and say "I feel like doing stand up today" and call his agent. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

He's a daddy. Not many men maintain their edge after they become parents.

I kind of liked him when I was really young, and I still like some of his old sketches but the rampant homophobia and sexism are a huge turn-off when I rewatch his old shows. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Eddie is very talented and funny. He's made some bad movie choices, but there's no denying he's very funny. I'm happy for him that he's received this award.

The homophobia and the sexism doesn't bother me. It's a comedy act. People these days are too concerned with being politically correct.

I've noticed that Will Smith's comedic chops seem to be lifted from Eddie Murphy performances, everything except the trademark laugh.

As far as I'm concerned ıt also depends on the jokes and the comedıan ın questıon. If the jokes are smart (Chrıs Rock, Paul Mooney, Rıchard Pryor, Dave Chapelle) I don't mınd them beıng politically incorrect but Eddıe made some really stupid jokes about HIV and gay people. But hey, to each his/her own, I have nothing against him or his fans. He just doesn' t strike me as a particularly funny or nice person. Maybe I'm a bit biased because I have gay friends and because of how he treated Mel B when he got her pregnant. or maybe it's because Prince didn't want to see Eddie backstage and had an argument with Miko Weaver because he took him backstage. I'm just not really a big fan of his. I still like Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop and Raw . And Delirious. I'm happy he got thıs award, no hard feelings. And I am one of the few people on thıs planet who really enjoyed that vampıre movıe he dıd ın the early 90s. That ''Evıl ıs good' speech he gave was really profound and hılarıous. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
