I guess the thing is No One knows how this started. I don't think Fear the Walking Dead will reveal that either. I don't want it too. This is just going to show us how life was as this was starting.
Maybe the people turning have to be exposed to something...
Maybe the people in morgues and hospitals who have been there for a while were not exposed

etc

shrug we don't know. But to me the Gloria as LAs patient zero sounds better and better to me. But then with TWD we know everybody is infected, everybody doesn't get flu shots, and definitely everybody doesn't use the same drugs, so again who knows. I'll have to watch the show again to get a timeline prespective.

Yeah I agree. Maybe somehow she was subdued and taken in. Being studied.
About it could tie in (I know we are speculating in all directions lol) but think of when the Georgia crew went to the Science Center where the last scientist blew it up... They were already doing reasearch on this and concluded that this is somehow in the system of humans. Depending on when this falls in the timeline. Information could have been dispersed from hospitals and science facilities early on.

*

and then the "Flu" that they were getting in the Prison, is it the same as what the people of LA are experiencing?

omg, you're going all conspiracy theory. lol I can't argue with you, only the creators know and I wouldn't put too much stock in them they might change their minds halfway through. I'm reading that Nick and Rick are in comas and it's all a dream. lol Yeah I read too that TTD confirmed it wasn't long ago, but still.

We still don't know how the walkers got out the church. Nick who frequents the place was squeezing through stuff getting out but then maybe he was panicing and going the easiest way for him, Travis had to climb through a window and when he took Madison his second trip, if I remember correctly, they just cut to them being inside the church maybe on Travis' way out the first time he found an easy opening. Or the local authorities went in to check Nick's story out and found the walkers and captured them.

Oh my, could the web community blow this up in a week. We'll see.

Fun Facts About Fear the Walking Dead's Frank Dillane
1. He is most nervous about his American accent (because he's British, as are quite a few of TWD's stars too)
2. He has not watched The Walking Dead and doesn't plan to so he can keep his performance as natural as possible
3. He plays guitar in an indie band.
4. A character he plays this year will be eaten

I just read, nothing official, that it's claimed that Gloria was patient zero for LA. Doesn't seem right to me. But maybe. If so, do you think something about the drugs they were using as oppose to the implied flu shot? The only person we saw reanimated after death was the drug dealer, which would explain the local authorities being unaware.

I don't think Gloria could be patient zero. Didn't the acne-faced kid say something about reports already coming in from five different states? Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding the Gloria theory.

Just zero for LA. Seems a bit far fetched, but then it does explain why hospital personnal weren't more cautious.

A lot if British-ish people are in a whole lotta thing, we're use to, we like the accents.

I think Nick will make it a while based on how quickly he reacted to the gun and in the tunnel. There's a survivor resilience there. He's fast in mind as well as physically, only time he got injured is when he stop to take it in and even then he was tough enough to push through his injuries, maybe that's a junkie thing. But this is TWD people, so, you know.

Oh and possibly since the pilot was Nick focused like the pilot of TWD was Rick focused.

What if an episode of The Walking Dead was set on a passenger airliner before civilization had fallen?

That’s basically what AMC is planning in a highly unusual — if not totally unprecedented — new special that’s set during the time period of the hit drama’s companion series, Fear the Walking Dead.

Here’s the plan: EW has exclusively learned AMC is producing a half-hour special that will tell a stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight. One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in season 2. So, yes: Zombies on a Plane.

1. We'll Pick Up Right Where We Left Off: After seeing their very first walker -- which will be called "the infected" in Fear -- at the end of last week's premiere, Madison (Kim Dickens) and Travis (Cliff Curtis) are terrified and hell-bent on escaping L.A. to avoid "that bug" that's going around. But of course, nothing in the Walking Dead universe ever goes according to plan...

2. Expect Thrills and Plenty of Chills: As Nick begins to come down from his adrenaline high of drugs, -- and the fact that he just ran over one of his best friends with a truck! -- a vicious withdrawal shocks his system. Spoiler Alert: If watching someone throw-up makes you queasy, then you might want to brace yourself. (Or, let's be honest, you should watch a different show because things are about to get really gory, y'all!)

3. New Faces and Fears: At one point in the hour, Travis will come face-to-face with some unlikely allies who will help him in a time of need. "We have new characters that come into our family and our community that really liven things up," Curtis spilled with no pun intended. "And [they] have got skills that we may not have and that helps us sort of to adapt." Our favorite new character? Ofelia Salazar (Mercedes Mason), a sweet young woman who has been sheltered by her family for her entire life -- but all of that could quickly change. "The nice ones are always the first to die, [so] she has to grow a set," Mason spilled at the Summer TCA press tour.

4. Love and Zombies Don't Mix: We'll keep this one pretty vague, but it doesn't take a TV expert to realize there must have been an important reason why Alicia's boyfriend Matt stood her up for a date in last week's episode.

5. Don't Mess With Madison: We already know that Madison is a fierce mama bear who will do anything to protect her children, but her level of badass-ery triples by the end of this Sunday night's sophomore episode. "It's been fascinating to play these characters to watch them sort of navigate this and come to grips with it as the information trickles in and as society starts to crumble," Dickens explained of her character's evolution. (Note-to-Readers: You'll never look at a fire extinguisher the same way again...)

6. This Is Only the Beginning: This slow-burning tale is about to catch fire in this week's all-new hour. "As the impending apocalypse starts to become apparent to us -- because it doesn't start off that way -- the city starts to fall and that's what's scary," Curtis spilled.

What is with this let's not tell Alisha or Chris (our teenage kids) anything, let's pretend their 4 years old and not willful hardhead teenagers and expect them to do exactly what we say do, because that will protect them from the bad things out there? I don't get it. Of course I loved how Liza kind of grabbed ahold of Chris, I was wondering why Madison didn't grab ahold of Alisha by all that hair,
I know she wanted to I know I did.

Madison had a brain freeze moment I don't get, except we get to see what she's capable of. Made me roll my eyes.

Hope Tobias shows up later on. He's too much on his game and now he has another bit of crucial info, he's got to make.

Travis seems to have drag race skills, I laughed when he came out of that tunnel.

I guess this is a slow episode in places but everything in that world just fell completely apart at the seams now, so its full swing from here on out.

Funny how they're trying to paint her as this strong type, but she's a complete wimp with her kids. I've never seen a mom like that in my life. Maybe the super rich who have nannies raise their kids but not regular strong people wouldn't be afraid to talk real to their children.

I thought they were trying to portray her as clueless and pretty dumb...so people will hate her, like they hated the same clueless Lori.

Honestly, I let the dumbness of the first episode slide (who goes to a church, sees blood everywhere and does nothing but say, "something bad happened here" - that line was said twice btw! lol)...but the stupidity in this episode started to bother me. Who the fuck calls their family to try to get them to take action but doesn't actually say what's happening? Who doesn't even tell their own daughter what they saw?

Like, no one is likeable in the family. Not Madison, not Travis, not his sourpuss face son, not Alicia, even Nick really.

I'm still going to watch, but the cheese and the stupidity is making my eyes hurt from all the rolling.

I think Liza's the likeable one. She's the one adult character that didn't originally witness any of these bizarre events, she's been too busy working, studying and whatever but the minute she see's how serious Travis is she starts opening her eyes and looking around and noticing the tiny bit she does see isn't right and responses. I was really hoping to like Travis, but that's my own personal issue quirk.

Funny how all the teenagers I've come across keep saying, "how come they didn't just text their kids 'emergency', they'd have gotten a call back immediately" I know it's what I do with my kidz when I call and they don't pickup, because I know them and if I text 'I need you now' I get a call back immediately.

The writers are absolutely clueless about basic human behavior.

When the family goes home, they don't talk to their neighbors about what's going on. Any disaster minor or major is the one time people will gather together and talk.

When the daughter visits her sick, damn near dead boyfriend, there is no sign of urgency or grief from her.

I usually like Kim Dickens, but her preformance is odd. She didn't seem particularly disturbed about a dead body coming to life.

In the age of social media, no one seems to have a clue what's going on. Everyone across the world would be aware of the rising dead in a day.

This show is basically the sociopath's view of the zombie apocalypse.

I'll continue to watch as well but so far, the storyline is not keeping me interested.

Exactly. So much 'exactly' in this post.

I mean, I get that we, the audience, already understand what's going on and that the characters still have to figure it out but there were so many incidents where they could have been a bit more realistic in showing how a normal 21st century person would respond. It would have been just as effective - more so, actually. Like, the set ups were so perfect but then it fell so flat.

The riots breaking out after the police shootings was the best part. I can totally see this happening and at least Liza understood pretty quickly, without knowing the dangers of the infected, that she needed to get her dickwad son out of harms way.

I think they were attempting to show that Madison was in some sort of shock, hence the no real emotion over what she saw but it didn't really translate well. She was inconsistent in her responses and that made her just come off as downright stupid.

The best movies/shows are ones where the audience can feel the emotion of the character, can picture themselves in their position, or can relate to them on some sort of level and I'm a viewer that often reacts in this way...but this show...man, I just don't give a fuck. Actually, I kind of want them all to be eaten and be introduced to a new group of people.

The show, so far, is basic.

It´s a nice show to watch until TWD season six starts but so far the characters are neither interesting nor likeable, except for the dad and maybe his ex-wife. And it´s all very basic, like any old zombie movie, but without zombies. lol I understand that the plot needs some time to unfold and that there will probably more action in episodes to come, but so far the first two episodes have been a bit too slow for me, and I´m probably the most patient and forgiving TV show fan (yes, to this day I still like LOST and even enjoyed the final season and episode).

A pilot and the first regular episode are supposed to raise anticipation and make people crave for more, right? But these first two episodes left even the hardcore TWD fans a bit underwhelmed, so that doesn´t bode too well.

But, all in all I still like the new show and can´t wait for more episodes. It´s interesting to see how things develop(ed) in areas other than Georgia, especially right before things fell apart.

Madison gets on my nerves though. Why on earth doesn´t she just tell her kids what is going on?

Yes
I don't think the characters can be interesting until they are in the TURN

We might not like most of the original cast prior to the TURN as well
