Model and modle # of computer

desktop or notebook

32bit or 64 bit

Is it just wireless access, Ethernet, or both? If you haven't checked your notebook Ethernet, connection do so. Plug CAT5 via the Ethernet port of your computer to your home's router... see if you can access the Internet that way. In most case,s the problem is wireless access. When you plug into your router via Ethernet, your wierless limited connection will probably interfer with Ethernet connection. So, go into Network and Sharing - right click on the Internet icon in the bottom right corner - and disconnect your wireless limited connection and click / connect to the Ethernet. It may take several second but your Ethernet should take over.... see if you can surf the web.

Back up everything because you'll probably have to reinstall. Internet Limited access problems in Windows are a pain in the ASS. After I get the info well see if the few tricks I know work. fingerscrossed

I guess the first check is to see if you can connect to a different network. If you have a laptop, try connecting to a public wifi. If you can, then you know the problem isnt your hardware and you probably have a router problem at home. If so, you could try resetting to factory default but make sure your ISP gives you the correct IP settings for reconfiguring it. Depending on what kind of router you have, many can be accessed through your web browser by typing in the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. Username and password will be the default which you can google.

If you cant connect to any network try rolling back the driver on your NIC (wireless/ethernet card). It could be an update which screwed things up. You could also try uninstalling your NIC completely, rebooting and allowing Windows to reinstall it automatically. You can do either of these things by right-clicking your connection icon in the taskbar (the one with the yellow triangle), selecting "open network and sharing center" and then clicking the link "change adptor settings". Then right-click the adaptor, select properties and then click the Configure button at the top. Go to the driver tab and you have the options to roll back the driver or uninstall the driver completely.

Also, if you have installed any software/hardware recently that may coincide with the problems, try uninstalling them and see if that solves the problem.

Also maybe try temporarily disabling your firewall and see if you can connect. If you can then your firewall is blocking access (unlikely if you say that sometimes you can connect). Also try googling your computer model and looking for any manufacturer updates which you may not have downloaded. There may be some connectivity updates/fixes to this particular problem.

just a few suggestions. Its a case of eliminating what isnt causing the problem before the solution appears. Try the above before getting into things like system restore or uninstalling windows updates, or more drastically, refreshing windows. Im sure the problem can be solved before any of that.
