Hair care products Okay, I know we already have a "Does anyone know of some wonderful bath and hair products" thread, but since that one seems to be devoted to the discussion of vegan products that aren't tested on animals, I'm going to start a new thread.
What hair care products do you use? Me:
I'm sure LaVisHh will have something to contribute to this thread. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Everyday use:
Paul Mitchell Shampoo One Paul Mitchell The Detangler If I want to straighten my hair: Bed Head Control Freak Shampoo/Conditioner - potent stuff, I'd only recommend this to people with very thick hair. --- Styling aids: Paul Mitchell Hair Treatment for deep conditioning. Paul Mitchell Super Sculpt for light hold - gel/shine. Paul Mitchell The Conditioner, a leave-in conditioner for the dry Minnesota winters. Paul Mitchell Freeze n Shine for hold. === Why so much Paul Mitchell? Because it does the job, and his products are animal friendly and leaves hair CLEAN as it is intended to be! Bottom line, if it works use it!

The salon where I now go seems to like American Crew for men. They also discourage the use of hair care products sold on the retail market (e.g., at drugstores and supermarkets). Granted, they've got a vested interest in selling their "salon-quality" products, but I'm pretty happy with the stuff I bought from them. Thing is though... haircare is dependant upon hair, not genitals. So I recommend products based upon their haircare value. I would stick to buying salon products from salons. It's best to give your business to those who specialize, imo. The guarantee on these products (if you read the label), only extends to these products sold in professional salons. Keep your local salons in business!

hey! I'm poor! Go less often and pay for a good haircut, it's the foundation of everything you do to your hair! What's $25-30 dollars every 2 months? Less than 50 cents a day! I'm off to dreamland...g'nite

Throw a brick at me too, LaV... that's where I used to go. Granted, they're cheap, but... 1) In retrospect, the quality of their work was inconsistent. 2) Since they work on a walk-in basis, it was too easy for me to put off getting my hair cut... and since my hair grows fast, that's not a good thing. (My new salon works on an appointment basis, and I simply book my next appointment before I leave the salon after I get my hair cut.) Did you get rid of those Brady Bunch bangs? When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Ex-Moderator | I rotate shampoos and conditioners. Currently I'm using BioSilk moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, Back to Basics Honey shampoo and conditioner (smells YUMMY!) and Nutrogena shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair.
Styling-wise, I use Short Sexy Hair "Slept-in," BioSilk's Silk Therapy (possibly the best hair product known to human) and KMS molding paste. When my hair was really short I loved Aveda's style stick. Great hold and smells sooo yummy! Crew is great for men, but the smell is just too manly for me. |

Considering I have extremely dry skin my dermatologist recommended a soap made of pure olive oil. doesn't really have a scent, but now I use all these products, from shampoos,to conditioners even tooth paste.. you can only buy it at the health food store, however I went directly to the website...its called Kiss My Face. Since I was introduced to these products I don't use anything else... they have scented soaps peach, camille, Tree oil..but unfortunatly I have to stick to natural states of products (unscented) my skin is so thankful...

www.kissmyface.com Kiss My Face is awesome. Their products are very thick and creamy and luscious. They are also totally vegan and don't test on animals. I use Tom's of Maine honeysuckle baby shampoo. It smells like heaven. Conditioner, the kind you put on in the shower and rinse off, is a waste of money, created by the hair care industry to make you poor and make them rich. YOU RINSE MOST OF IT OFF. It is the little bit of residue left that does anything. Just take a teensy amount, rub it between your palms, and run it through your damp hair after you get out of the shower. You'll get the same result, and your conditioner will last forever. You can also use cheap hand lotion; it's basically the same stuff (here Lavish passes out). Don't say I never did nuthin' for ya. Of course, I use all of that money I save to buy the most expensive and fabulous soap, bath fizz, and lotion that I can find: Pre de Provence. Mmmm.

I'm not going to get into it, but they are not the same. If you make a habit of not rinsing out a product that is meant to be rinsed, you will get product build-up... there is hair that you could really just use Coast soap on, lol... but the greater majority of people? No, it won't work... my 16 years of hairstyling, and tons of hair types... it all depends on the hair and scalp.
