Rapidshare to cease operations as of March 31st

Rapidshare, the once-most popular file storage service on the internet, is shutting down completely after March 31st, 2015. Known for it's ease of storage and easy file sharing capabilities, primarily for copyrighted content uploaded by its users, it once traded hundreds of millions of files every month. But after law enforcement shut down Megaupload in 2012, Rapidshare attempted to comply with the authorities and copyright holders in the RIAA and MPAA, and in the process alienated its customers. Traffic soon dried up, and they attempted to rebrand themselves in the guise of Dropbox and Google Drive but failed.

If a business can't survive without illegitimate distribution of copyright protected material, so be it.

Hopefully more are shut down for the same reason.

.

These sites are not beneficial to the music industry becoming stronger again with better material being produced, so look at that as the bright side lol

Copyright laws have been around for over a century. That they're actually being enforced is surprising isn't it?

Nah they aren't around either, FBI.

With streaming music, does anyone need to download music illegally? Of course streaming isnt a real money maker and its silly to pay for it... so many free streaming sights. I don't think anyone cares, folks have downloaded shit for about 14 years. lol

At the end of the day, its shoplifting / plain stealing. People simply like to hide behind the digital shadow and blame the coprporate system for making them do it.

Never used it. There are better alternatives out there to consider, and I'm down with torrenting in the cloud.

Actually, it still is, but they changed their storage model to be more like Dropbox after Megaupload was shut down. They also got extermely aggressive with shutting down accounts and deleting files, so a lot of traffic went away from them.

As for these file hosters, they're usually good for music and porn, but they're not the best place to download movies or TV shows; you're better off using a torrent site for that.

Stealing in the internet is, apart from revealing a total lack of respect for culture and artists.
