There is an active criminal investigation underway in Georgia in the Bobbi Kristina case ... it centers on possible foul play and the target is her boyfriend ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... Bobbi Kristina had certain injuries that have piqued their interest. We do not know the nature of the injuries. Multiple sources tell TMZ there is a history of violence between Bobbi Kristina and boyfriend Nick Gordon.

We're told police are looking into a possible altercation more than an hour before Bobbi Kristina wasfound submerged in a bathtub.

We're told Max Lomas -- the friend who discovered Bobbi Kristina in the tub -- arrived at around 9 AM last Saturday. He says he hung out with Nick but did not see Bobbi Kristina. He was told she was in the bedroom. Nick wandered away and Max says he didn't pay attention to his whereabouts.

The cable guy showed sometime after 10 AM and Max says he let him in -- Nick was nowhere to be seen. The cable guy said he needed access to the bedroom so Max let him in and discovered Bobbi Kristina in the tub. He screamed for Nick, who ran in and administered CPR.

We're told Max claims Nick allegedly cleaned up the home and removed blood stains.

Cops interviewed both Max and Nick and they want to debrief Max again, but our law enforcement sources say Max's lawyer insisted on immunity before he spoke again. We're told as of Friday morning Max hadn't gotten immunity or talked to cops.

Our sources say Nick Gordon has also lawyered up. We could not reach Nick for comment.

I was wondering why Max was the one who found her in the bathroom. Seems to be strange for a friend of Nick's to be the one to find her in such an intimate room and position. Why would he even enter her private bathroom?. Something's rotten in the state of Denmark...

Well Max & Krissi have a lil history together. They use to be a couple...Believe it or not..

Also peeps keep saying Nick & Bobbi were like brother & sister. But back when they were living with Whitney, they were actually seeing eachother. Plus Whitney was well aware of it..

my unbridled opinion of this situation is in no way should there have ever been a "whitney" biopic/movie at this point in time. it was too soon. my other feeling is that the makers of this story of whitney and bobby should have had a meeting with Bobbi Kristina to see if she wanted the movie to happen, and/or access if she was emotionally ready to have her father and mother's life splayed across the country for all to view.

Bobbi Kristina was too vulnerable. for her to see a movie aired about her mother and father and their issues must have been devestating to her.

i think not. the whole thing about this movie being presented was insensitive and intrusive to a young Bobbi Kristina.

not only was she overwhelmed with how her mother (Whitney) died, not only did she have to deal with all the bad press about her parents, but she also had to face a world in which her father (Bobby Brown) has been vilified as a major contributor to the down fall of Whitney.

IMO i feel Bobbi Kristina was not respected by those who decided to produce and direct the biopic. i feel they are largely responsible for this tragic outcome of a very young person trying to make sense out of it all.

I believe that something sad may have happened either way because we were coming upon the anniversary of her mother's death. Don't forget that Bobby Kris was pretty damned salty that she did not get the lead role in this movie and let everyone know it.

Like I said, Whitney let them stay there as a couple, so she can keep a watchful eye over Krissi. After the both of them started running away together. Whitney knew the relationship had become sexual. It is possible, for two people, to fall in love, under unusual circumstances(especially hormonal teenagers) It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know, Whitney knew, considering how close Bobbi was to her Mother. Who was having a hot romance herself with Ray J, who was 18 YEARS her junior.

It is a strange arrangement but Whitney must have seen some good qualities in Nick if she let their relationship continue while they lived with her.

maybe some of what nick witnessed during his early teens in regard to whitney and bobbi's daily lives could have had a very adverse affect in his development into adulthood.

i'm sure a lot of what he saw shaped his views as far as man/woman relationships.

Nick must of had a bad relationship with his parents. He was Living with Whitney instead with his parents. His childhood Must has been dysfunctional, abusive, etc.

For real. If living with those two was better than living with his own family, then God bless him. Nippy and Bobby were the poster children for Dysfuctional Couples. But, I really hope this Nick person didn't have anything to do with Bobbi's tradgedy.

Brown family sources tell us Bobby has finally made the decision, realizing there is no hope for his 21-year-old daughter to recover. A source connected with Houston's family told TMZ on Sunday ... Cissy Houston, Whitney's mom, also wanted life support pulled on the anniversary to "bond mother and daughter for eternity." We have not confirmed this, but the NY Post ran the story this AM.
