LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
Stuart Scott, one of ESPN's signature SportsCenter anchors, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 49.
"ESPN and everyone in the sports world have lost a true friend and a uniquely inspirational figure in Stuart Scott," said ESPN president John Skipper. "Who engages in mixed martial arts training in the midst of chemotherapy treatments? Who leaves a hospital procedure to return to the set? His energetic and unwavering devotion to his family and to his work while fighting the battle of his life left us in awe, and he leaves a void that can never be replaced."
After joining the network in 1993 for the launch of ESPN2, Scott became a leading voice on ESPN's SportsCenter.
Scott is survived by his two daughters, 19-year-old Taelor and 15-year-old Sydni, his parents, and his three siblings.
I am so heartbroken over this.I lost a family member fighting the same battle not long ago, Stuart was the bravest I ever seen. He was determined to win that battle. I attended the Espy Awards last year and witnessed his couregeus speech. It wasn't a dry eye in the place. He actually unhooked himself and left the hospital from treatment to attend.
R I P STUART SCOTT
You will be missed and remembered for your bravery.

will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
Very sad to hear. Very fun watching and listening to his broadcasts through the years and loved that he always showed so much pride for his alma mater (UNC!). A lot of new broadcasters try to be cool like him and steal his lines, but can't pull it off lol he will be missed. [Edited 1/4/15 9:41am]
"Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."
He was very colorful and introduced a hip-hop style to sports broadcasting that not everyone was fond of. A lot of people liked his style a lot, but a lot of people didn't like it. But he was unapologetic about it. Nevertheless, he was still very professional and added a lot of class to Sportscenter, the Monday Night Football pregame telecasts, and the NBA pregame telecasts. I knew he was sick a couple of times, but I wasn't aware he had three occurrences of cancer, the third which would ultimately be fatal. He will be missed greatly.

One can describe his handling of cancer with one of his catchphases (which come to think about it, is apropos to this site): He was as "cool as the other side of the pillow."
ESPN’s Stuart Scott Tribute Secretly Filmed Months Before his Death (Watch)
Jan 5, 15
ESPN television host Stuart Scott broadcast from the sidelines during a week 15 NFL football game between the New York Jets against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, Tennessee on December 17, 2012.
*Months ago, shortly after Stuart Scott gave a speech about his fight with cancer, a group of ESPN producers–led by Mike Lieber, Miriam Greenfield and Denny Wolfe–began producing what would become the 14-minute tribute obituary that aired on ESPN Sunday morning.
Per TV Newser:
“They all talked about what it would mean if the piece ever aired. It meant their friend and colleague was dead,” writes Sports Illustrated‘s Richard Deitsch. “But the small group of ESPN staffers who worked on the feature believed they owed it to their colleague to produce something with love and care if that awful day ever came.”
Deitsch reports the producers informed Scott’s agent that work on the obit was underway, asking if Scott would want to know. It’s believed he was unaware that it had been completed.
Lieber and Greenfield found out Scott had passed before sunrise on Sunday and hustled to get the piece ready for air. Lieber said producers were working on some of the auxiliary Scott pieces that ran on Sunday as late as two weeks ago. There are a lot of advanced pieces that live on ESPN’s servers until they run but Lieber and Co. intentionally did not put the main Scott feature on the servers because they did not want the piece living electronically.
“God forbid someone hits a wrong button or sees that we are preparing it and starts to talk, and word got back to Stuart,” Lieber said.
Even though I find this VERY tacky and inconsiderate!. It's a well done tribute.
