NY travel tips
My brother, wife and their 2 kids have a stop over in New York.
They arrive the 27th and leave the 29th of December.
Can you please give me some tips about a hotel for them? I told him to go to FAO Schwarz, because I figured his sons (7 and 8) would love that.
Any other tips for a one day trip?
Maybe a musical?

So many New Yorkers on this site and still no reply? That's strange...

Is this their first time visiting?

Yes, it's their first time.
But it's just for 1.5 day.
I told him that the kids will love FAO Schwarz. And he agreed.
So they will go there and he booked a hotel in that area.
Do you guys know a good restaurant for lunch/diner in that neighbourhood?
Thanks in advance 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I know the west side better than the east (which is where FAO is). I'd suggest to go to 9th Ave between 44th & 55th for great (and a great selection of) restaurants. I also recommend the High Line, off 10th Ave btwn 30th St, down to Gansevoort St. Great outdoor space with sweet views of the city (for now...construction is taking over).FAO is near Central Park, and that's always a great place to check out. I think 2nd Ave btwn 47th & 56th has a good selection of restaurants (I think). Rockefeller Center is just down 5th Ave from FAO, and is always a spectacle, even more so during the Holidays. There's a place on Madison & 55th...Sony Wonder Technology Lab that the boys might get into. Grand Central is nice as well - 42nd & Park, indoor space. There's a spot where you can go to separate corners and talk to each other up the wall. I think it is called the whispering wall. Times Square, Herald Square, Madison Square Park, Union Square Park, Bryant Park...all great outdoor spots to check out. Bryant Park has a ice skating rink now, most of these places have outdoor shops set up for the Holidays. Times Square has Toys R Us. Just down from Union Square is the Strand (independent book store, really cool), Forbidden Planet (comic book store), and a Halloween shop (open all year). If they want to go further downtown, Chinatown, Little Italy, and the surrounding areas are always fun neighborhoods to explore. If they want to try dim sum, I suggest Jing Fong on Elizabeth, south of Canal, west of Bowery...just get there before 10:30am on the weekend if you want to avoid the rush. They might want to pick up a Time Out NY magazine, or Village Voice newspaper to see what is going on that weekend, maybe get an idea of a show or something they'd want to see/check out.
