Behold: dyed armpit hair. Yep, it's apparently a real thing.
The trend has garnered attention thanks to a Seattle-based hair stylist named Roxie Hunt, whose blog post on the subject, "How to dye your armpit hair," has been shared over 30,000 times.
In her post, Hunt notes that she's "always wanted to dye someone's pit hair." So, when her coworker agreed to be a test model, Hunt happily transformed her natural, unshaven pits into bright blue/green patches to match the hair on her head.
"We laughed and marveled at the beauty of her blue pit hair. It was too good to be true. The color in her pits perfectly matched the color on her head. I felt a major win for body hair," she writes.
Before Hunt's blog post was released, Youtuber Destiny M attempted the the trend on herself and posted the results online. Her video, which was posted on September 17, 2014, has since been seen by over 75,000 people.
Destiny says she was inspired to dye her pits after seeing a photo of a woman with pink pubic hair. In a blog post of her own, she explains that coloured pits represent the freedom to make her own choices, which is pretty empowering.
Other people are trying the trend too. A search for the hashtag #noshavenoshade on Tumblrbrings up hundreds of pics of women letting their armpit hair (natural and dyed) hang out, while the #dyedpits hashtag on Instagram reveals 78 photos (We bet that number will continue to increase in the next few days, too).
So does all of this really mean dyed pits are "a major win for body hair?"
We don't know. But what we do know, is that dyed pits, even more than just hairy pits, make a pretty bold statement. And if that statement is for you, we say go for it. Let your bright blue pits shine! Unleash them to the world! Or don't, because that's totally okay too.
