Discovery Channel is putting a wildlife expert into a snake-proof suit and filming him being eaten by a giant snake. Sounds safe.

Paul Rosolie, a wildlife expert, has signed up to wear a custom-made ‘snake-proof’ suit and allow himself himself be ‘eaten alive’ by an anaconda on TV. The stunt will be documented in a new Discovery Channel show called Eaten Alive.

Sounds like a way more badass—not to mention entertaining—version of Jackass.

A bit of intel on anacondas: In addition to being the star of Nicki Minaj/Sir Mix-A-Lot hits, they are very large snakes found in South America. The term usually refers to green anacondas, which can grow to as long as 22 feet. They live in or near water and tend to suffocate prey by constricting their bodies around their victims.

While further details on the show are scarce, the promotional page on Discovery’s website states simply: “Naturalist and wildlife filmmaker Paul Rosolie enters the belly of an anaconda in a custom-built snake-proof suit.” We’re most definitely tuning in to this one.

Mirror UK wonders about the logistics:

“It’s possible to buy fabric that protects from...nake bites, but it certainly wouldn’t protect a human from the immense pressure of a powerful snake’s constriction.”

We’re not exactly hoping that something goes wrong—all we’re saying is it would make for good television.

I LOVE SNAKES! Have had a fascination with them since i was a kid. This is one of the worst idea ever. I mean wtf? this is just a horrible idea. And i will no doubt watch it

And what happens after the snake eats him? They going to split the snake open to save the man.. Thats just wrong. No interest here.. Stupid. I say, if the man is stupid enuff to go thru it.. let the snake eat him period.

This isn't even logical...an anaconda constricts it's prey before eating it. It doesn't just eat a living creature.

The Discovery Channel sure has been pushing the envelope lately. First that stunt with the guy tightrope walking between Chicago skyscrapers (with no safety harness!) and now this snake stunt. I wonder what's next for the folks at Discovery to shock us with...

They've been at it for awhile. There was Ed Stafford's walk of the Amazon... then he decided to do other camping adventures like Bear Grylls - only naked. Then we had "Naked & Afraid" - and seeing most of those people naked would make you afraid anyway - which led to something like "Dating Naked" on another channel, as well as a real estate show on another where they sold home to people naked. Now, on Discovery, they have a show called "Tethered" - where two strangers (not naked) are locked together by a 6 foot chain and they must navigate the wilderness to an extraction point. I'm not sure why this stuff is on Discovery, but it's an odd choice of reality programming.

Oh I didn't realize that it was stretching that back far with these antics. I don't know what to think. It's like the producers have completely changed the whole vibe at Discovery from showing documentaries about animals to these type of wild reality shows/stunts. I'm surprised that there's not more of a backlash for this snake stunt. Who is the dummy that actually agreed to become the prey of this snake?

The moment a daredevil was 'eaten alive' by a snake for TV stunt - and then got chewed up by the critics for getting his safety team to save him after only his head was consumed

• Paul Rosolie tracked down a 20ft-long green anaconda in South America
• The 27-year-old then donned black armored suit slathered in pig's blood
• As cameras rolled, he crawled on all fours toward snake, which pounced
• Animal coiled itself around his body, while clamping its jaws on his head
• As Mr Rosolie felt his arm 'start to break', he asked team to rescue him
• Only part of his head was inside snake when friends wrestled it off him
• On Sunday night, social media users were criticizing long-awaited stunt
• One wrote: 'Complete waste of my time, you didn't even get eaten alive'
• Airing followed protests from conservationists on both sides of Atlantic
• Mr Rosolie claims he did stunt to raise money to save snake's habitat

EXACTLY. Cruelty to animals. Where's PETA when you really need them? Not cute and fluffy enough to warrant attention?

His wife didn't volunteer.

I think I need to re-evaluate myself as a human being because I started busting out laughing when I got to the part "felt his arm start break", my empathy chip is short circuiting again.


So much for, snake proof suit.

Yes, this was a total let-down. It took him an hour and a half - just to search for the "right" snake. "No, that one - despite being 21 feet long, isn't big enough." Finally, he ended up using the "big one" at the zoo! It coiled around him and then the wus gave up when he felt it breaking his arm off. I tell you, if my dream was to get eaten alive by an anaconda - I would literally give my left arm up for the experience! This was like saying, "I'm gonna be eaten alive by man's best friend," and then sticking your finger in your dog's mouth. I don't even think the snake fully engulfed the guy's head! He was sorta cute, but seemed stuck on himself like it was his Divine mission to somehow save the anaconda in this "floating jungle" environment. I'm not even sure why it's such a good idea to save this particular part of the rain forest - as it doesn't seem like there is a rush of developers marching into the area to build on the floating jungle, and after making the giant anaconda into such a fearsome creature - one that could potentially eat people - why we should save it, but there you go. This generation's "Al Capone's Vault," hosted by Geraldo Rivera.
