Be careful, I about burned a hole in my stomach taking too much Advil. I was taking it daily for about a month, that was all it took.

Maybe if you admit to yourself who you really are. You will feel better and not need painkillers. Quit masking the pain. You may need to seek professional help such as Dr Phil or possibly Dr Jerry Springer. Be open with your family about who you really are. You may need to even consider smoking medical marijuana to get off these things you call painkillers. Or seek advice from Evan Dando possibly. Many ways you could get off the painkillers but I will quit pretending to be Dr Phil. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

I know who I am, I only take medical drugs, not recreative drugs, and don't forget Dr.Love

that's why the whole OP is a question I take a painkiller whenerver I feel pain, but Im not sure if that's the most sensible thing...I mean, perhaps the best option is just to endure the pain...

the reason u are in pain is because u take pain killers .. they suppress pain but when they wear off the pain is usually worse .. if u have a headache drink more water, eat healthy food, if u have muscle pain try yoga .. pain is your body's way of communicating with you and telling you some part of your body is not aligned or healthy .. if u cover that up with drugs then the body will remain in its unhealthy unalligned state .. eg .. if u sprain your ankle you should stay off of it for a while so it can heal, not take a pill and keep walking on it, that will only make it worse and cause u to take more pain pills .. i dont think twice a week is addiction, more like habit that is not actually addressing your pain but just masking it for a couple days

I think it can be addicting, those prescription kinds. Now that you're aware, you need to try to get off of it. Someone I know was addicted to it, but got off of it lives with the pain. She even has to walk with a cane.

Tell that to my friend with degenerative back disease and arthritis. Some people have no choice but to take pain killers just to move their bodies. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

He never said what he takes...only said painkillers....and that its not as strong as Advil. Ibuprofen and aspirin will burn a hole jn your tummy as acetaminophen wont. He may be speaking to hydrocodone w/APAP or the like, or he may be speaking to something OTC. Theres a level of vagueness and a sense of looking for approval that speaks to addiction. Or he may just be stirring a pot. The best way is to learn to cope with pain to the best of your ability and not to just pop a narcotic painkiller whenever it hurts along with treating what is creating the symptom of pain. When painkillers are taken regularly, they will mentally amplify any actually pain, or create faux pain to make it seem worse so your brain can get a fatty reward when u pop your narcotic, or whatever the source of addiction is. It will create a tolerance that will compound the problem quickly, a tolerance that doesnt quickly subside either, if at all. In 2 months, 2 vicodin won't relieve what 2 vicodin had easily handled. And 2years of being clean won't bring it back down to two Vickie's. This post was typed by an addict who still occasionally uses. I'm not knee deep in nothing, but am by no means 'clean'. I will binge pop 1-2 times a month. My addiction was brought on by heavy symptoms of crohns disease. Symptoms and a lack of desire/ability to always cope with them keeps my use rolling. Some diseases create chronic pain...and its a fiiiiine tightrope u gotta walk. Side note...this addiction gave 'Vicki waiting' a new spin. Again this post was typed by an informed addict...not an expert...an addict.

Painkillers are so addictive. I've had morphine for surgeries before. Years later, I can feel it if I think about it. It feels like an itch, like restless legs at night, like a hunger. I want morphine again. It's part of my DNA now. Or something. Science. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Some people really need it, cause the pain level is off the charts, and one has to consider if it was acquired or what and whether it helps someone get through the day. I agree that if there are other options in the beginning to treat whatever ailment it is, those should definitely be explored, but for some, there is absolutely no way. I say this from knowing people with injuries that could have killed them and are still living with the pain and damage caused today.
