Rush is over, I will now commence drinking heavily

Well, actually it ended Sunday at 1:15, when we received notification from our daughter that she'd received a bid from a sorority. Thank God it was the one she liked best!

Have you ever been through sorority rush? Holy moley, what a stressful time! I know it almost always ends up OK. And even if girls don't get a bid, there are snap bids available from sororities that didn't fill their quota. But dang!

We started drinking at 2:30 Sunday and pretty much haven't stopped, except for work.

Cheers lol lol lol

I'm glad your daughter got into the sorority she wanted.

A different process for African-Americans. I'm glad to hear they have a snap bid going on now. Back-in-the-day fraternities and sororities, use to do the "blackball" or marble. A young woman on my dorm floor, was "blackballed". That girl cried for a week plus... disbelief

Never really understood what all of that was about. Not the concept, not what sororities and fraternities ultimately are, and of what important use they are?

Are they simply a means for young folks to help with their self-identification? Are they semi-official economic alliances which will help you out when you get into tax trouble on Wall Street?

We have no real equivalent here in Europe... Well, there are student fraternities (where women aren't allowed to join), but it's just a bunch of drunk, sexist, traditionalist idiots with conservative (sometimes extreme) tendencies meeting in a cellar once a week and getting pissed. Needless to say, those are far and few inbetween in Europe and the regular student has no idea they even exist, let alone any interest in joining them.

Thanks! One of the things that pleased my wife and I was the diversity of her sorority. I've heard of black balling. We didn't have that in my frat, thank God. It was majority vote for each new member.

Mainly, it's an easy way to throw great parties. Much better purchasing power when you know you're gonna have 300 people show up.

Last night's celebratory beverage was Pinot Noir. That may have impaired my talents and contribution on my Pub Quiz team but then again, maybe not. Those questions were HARD.
