Family Captures American Canyon Quake on Video

http://www.cnn.com/2014/0...index.html

(CNN) -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Northern California early Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

It was the strongest to hit the Bay Area since 1989, when a quake struck during the World Series.

Sunday's earthquake struck 4 miles northwest of American Canyon, 6 miles southwest of Napa, and 9 miles southeast of Sonoma, according to the USGS.

CNN affiliate KTVU reported a church in Vallejo was heavily damaged and lost its bell tower.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The USGS estimated that 106,000 people felt the quake as"very strong;" 176,000 as "strong, and 738,000 felt it moderately.

Oh God did I feel it!

at first I thought my cats were jumping on furniture knocking stuff down

and my dogs were barking at the wall

I jumped outta bed and realized we were having an earthquake

God I thought I was gonna die, I panicked not knowing what to do,

the house was still rocking, made my way to front door to exit the house,

then it stopped. OMG I remember the 89 quake, but this was much more

violent and much more scary, I live in Crockett, right across the

Bridge from Vallejo and it felt like it was direrctly under me.

It knocked stuff out of cabinets, some broken vase

and knocked my dresser mirror and lamp onto the floor. (and this is a solid

wood-framed mirror) also lots of cans flew off shelves in my pantry

Cat hid under bed until 7am when I finally had to pull her out.

This is a wake-up call (Literally a wake-up call)

I'm still nervous and bend out of whack...

That's an earthquake, not quite a state of emergency event but just enough to scare the day lights out of you.

I was in laying bed and it started shaking. I thought it was just me, I sat up and realised it was still shaking
I got up, throw on some clothes walked into the front room and i think it was still shaking
I found a picure that fell down
I was a bit shook up. Last time i felt anything like that was back in 89 and it wasnt good
It felt prety strong here. Im about 30 something odd miles from where it hit

Luckily there's been no fatalities from the quake.

I was in the one in 1989. That one was huge. We didn't know what hit us. All I felt was lightheaded but then we saw all the cars rocking back and forth and my ex came running out the back door of the Jack in the Box we worked at. Me and this other guy was just looking at all this and at each other and started bustin' out laughing. That was a trip. Kinda felt like we were high.

lol

It woke me up since I'm a light sleeper. I reacted quickly by jumping out of bed and going under the doorway. I've been through '89 (remember every moment of it clearly) and other moderate quakes over the years, but I tend to react or overreact to most of the them unless it clearly feels like a 3 or less. It lasted about 15 seconds. For about 3-5 seconds it seemed like the shaking of the ground had stopped, but the rattling of the windows continued and sounded like thunder. I was listening for things to fall, and fortunately nothing fell. Then I stayed awake listening to the news and texting folks until 5am.

Well Gov. did call state of emergency since houses did collapse, fires and main pipes burst. Funny how our news seem to focus on the wine that was lost.

It's nothing compared to the '89 earthquake... Thank God, it wasn't that!
