Can we flashback to HBO's "Rome" (2005-2007)?

I know I'm not the only orger who tuned in and throroughly enjoyed this short lived series for it two seasons and for those who aren't aware, HBO has been re-airing those seasons on HBO West each weeknight at 8pm. Can I say that I've been enjoying it, even more so than I did when I originally watched it 9 years ago? popcorn

Vorenus and Pullo were and still are my favorite team fighting duo. They took care of business and had each other's backs, even when they seemingly had written each other off.

Can I say that whoever casted the show was brilliant? James Purefoy who portrayed Mark Antony was made for that role. He brought the humor just when it was needed but was also fiercely stern. Ciaran Hinds was great as Caesar...I know that he's currently on Game of Thrones as Mance Rayder.

I was so disappointed when it was announced that the show was getting the axe after just two seasons due to enormous expenses, however, it seems that whatever mistakes were made with Rome, were surely lessons learned when it comes to "Game of Thrones".

Do any of you have any favorite scenes or episodes of "Rome"?

I haven't watched it in a while, but I loved it when I did watch it. I don't know about the Shakespearean Romans that kind of irked me a bit, but I got into the other stuff.

How 'bout the scene with the gift of 'large penis'? That certainly springs to mind.

Ok, yeah, I need to rewatch it because there obviously is a few things I forgot about.

But it'll be slow since Blockbuster is now defunct. That's how I saw it the first time, I could binge watch it for real that way. Netflix doesn't stream HBO shows and my dvd queue is full right now.

Do you subscribe to HBO through a cable service? If so, you could watch all episodes on HBOGO. If not, Amazon may possibly have the seasons 1 & 2 at a good price since it aired nearly 9 years ago.

Couldn't get into this show much. James Purefoy was/is a little too smug for my liking. I liked the tits though.

Naw, not subscribed. $1.99 per episode is a bit steep to me or $20 for the season is too. I'll move it in my queue. Just saw episode 1 (free), it was pretty good, I could live quite well without the boobs but its the way that it is so, eh I'll suffer. Ha, I didn't remember "Owen" was in it. I'm going to watch if he's has a Shatneresque quality to him. He's cute though all macho.

See that's the thing, the few episodes I've seen of Grey's Anatomy, I couldn't accept in the "Owen" role, I still saw him as Vorenus in Rome. lol but I don't really care for Grey's Anatomy" anyway so that could be it. But yeah both him and Pullo were sexy as hell...though I'm more drawn to Pullo.

I bought the theme song I don't think I need to say more.

The Shakespearean stuff didn't seem as noticeable this time. I think I'm looking more at this interpretation of the historical characters personalities. And getting a taste of what the everyday people lifes might have been like. Cleopatra, I don't know she seemed so animal like if I remember correctly, primitive. I know Romans had a very high opinion of themselves but really.

Waiting for my episodes 1-4 to come in the mail.

Okay, I retract, the Oxford-ish scholarly bantering is a bit annoying, wish it were a bit more gritty. I know they get past that eventually if I remember correctly.

Why did I start this? Now I've pulled out my "Man of Rome" book series to start reading all over again, those colored my view of that era, which isn't quite meshing with this tv series.

Episode 3 much, much, muuuuch better.

Pullo sure has a lot of "power" in what is happening to the Rebulic. A lot of accidents.

Ray Stevenson does great commentary, gives a little history, gives a little behind the scenes info, doesn't go all into how great every single actor on the show is and has plenty to say.

I honestly thought Pullo was bluffing about the torture until he cut off the guys thumbs. Guess not.

Okay, with that haircut and a lot of those camera shots I'd say the makers on this show were setting up Kevin for a role of Caesar someday because he looks awful close and he has that military baring in how he carries himself.

Hell hath no fury... Sevilia is piiiiisssed!!! I had to move across the room when she was doing her curses. She gave both of therm a whammy and a half. I wondered if some of that venom was going to come gushing out the TV.
