Soaps: The Frothy, Sudsy Return of the Night Time Soap!

You'd think it was 1982 what with the proliferation of the splashy, glitzy and scandalous night time soap opera. Forget JR and Alexis Colby, the new nightime soaps don't go for leisurely pace and a few plotlines. The new soaps have double cliffhangers in each episode and amped up roll-my-eyes moments that would make the old night time soaps blush and gasp for air. But which one do you prefer to lather up to? The possibilities are endless:

>

Scandal is the king of soaps at the moment. It has everything both to its advantage and detriment. There's the good and bad writing, the plots and character actions that make no sense, the overwrought monologues, overheated sex, obnoxious action and frenetic pace. For the best in trash TV, nothing comes close.

>

No one is worse then Tyler Perry. His brand of soap calls for amatuerish writing and directing, cheap production and compitent direction. But you can't turn away. It's like TV crack. So bad it's good.

He has the nerve to have TWO soaps currently running on the "prestigious" OWN network.Saving Grace? Tika Sumpter!

>

Revenge is the soap that started the whole revival. It's the master of the oh-sh!t plot twist. And it has a mercinery/espionage side that sets it apart. Set in the sumptuous Hamptons with a scene stealing performance by the scene chewing Madeline Stowe, Revenge is what compulsive viewing was made for.

>

Reign is my favorite! Think Gossip Girl meets Game of Thrones, with enough head games and manipulations to give you a sugar rush, or a headache. And with all the conniving, murder and awesome acting, costumes and scenery, Reign reigns! And it's much more fun then Game of Thrones BTW.

>

I hate to even bring up Being Mary Jane because it operates on such a higher level then your basic soap. It's one of the best shows on television. That it's also a black show makes it extra special. Mary Jane Paul is one of those professional messes that has it all figured out at work yet can't operate her personal life for a damn! It's like a sexier, blacker version of Broadcast News. It's sexy, sophisticated, has gorgeous black men to goggle at and a star turn from Gabrielle Union that is worth all the Emmy nominations currently bestowed on Kerry Washington. That it doesn't get more press even though it's more successful then critical darlings like Mad Men is well, maddening.

Revenge is my shit. I can't wait to see what happens with SPOILER ALERT IF YOU'RE NOT CAUGHT UP ... The return of bleep; CATCH UP NOW. Very much looking forward to the return of Scandal and the premiere of How To Get Away With Murder. I love The Originals and Reign though I haven't see any of the last season TVD. Tyrant which aired on FX this summer was great if you're a sucker for tension.

Ringer was awesome and would have been epic if it was given a second season and just upped the camp.

isn't How To Get Away With Murder more of a crime show than a soap?

From all of the synopsis I've read of the show sounds more like a crime/thriller.
