McJagger

I saw it last night. Very, very good. Mick Jagger is one of the producers, and he selects all the music. They use James Brown's recordings and Chadwick Boseman does a fine lip synch. And they don't sugar coat everything.

I can understand how one could be frustrated with the time periods going out of order, at first I thought it was going to annoy me, but it didn't...in fact, I think that's what made the movie more interesting.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

yeah, but why did it bug me that JB didn't have a process when he first performed Sex Machine?

hmmm

plus, the scene, where the musicians demanded to get paid and JB brought Bootsy and em' on...

it didn't happen that way...

a good scene would've been JB teaching Bootsy "The One"

they missed out on that one lol still a good movie tho'

The first half hour or so I was almost ready to bail. But I'm glad I stuck in there

I totally agree with this. James Brown's story is interesting enough without doing tricked up cutting and breaking the fourth wall stuff (ie, speaking directly into the camera). Every time it happened, it took me out of the story.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Saw it yesterday thought it was really good....But for the life of me I could not understand why Bobby Byrd put up with all of James shit. I would had done exactly what Maceo suggested. KNOCKED JAMES ON HIS ASS..

Agree 100%! nod

A few other opinions...

• One can't pulp fiction one's way through a life so full, James lived enough for 3 lives.

• The lip syncing drove me nuts.

• Skipped his early 80's comeback in Rocky? Living in America isn't the best from JB but to just ignore it? Really?

• Finally, how much more would it have cost to have 2 drummers in the live shots? If you're gonna miss this detail, how many others did you think were not necessary.

Finally saw it last night and, overall, I was impressed and enjoyed it. For all the things that were "missing" in the movie, and there was quite a bit, I'm simply glad that Brown got the major studio biopic treatment instead of some made-for-tv BS.

Biggest complaint- I didn't like how, towards the end of the movie, Brown was portrayed as another old addict that was past his prime. Yes, Brown was doing a lot of weed and PCP in his last days but, unlike his contemporaries, I always suspected that the drug use was a way of self medicating due to being the "hardest working man in show business". In other words, if you were in your 50's and still performing with dropping on your knees, doing the splits, and other hard James Brown dancing in 1982, you too might need PCP to get through those shows.

Random complaint- I didn't see anyone portraying Danny Ray. How can you make a James Brown bio pic without including Danny Ray?!?!?!?

Still, it was a good flick and Chadwick did justice to the role...

Hated it, *in fairness i saw the forthcoming documentary weeks before I saw me and the peeps i saw the doc with disliked it also. We preferred the doc.

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I agree. It seems like the filmmakers didn't want to play it safe and make a 'typical' biopic.I applaud them for that.
