It's interesting how the actual video of the beatdown inside of the elevator has never surfaced. They "only" have what happened in the hallway once the doors opened. TMZ wasn't able to get the actual footage of him allegedly hitting her? Sounds like the NFL goon squad got their hands on the tape first before it got out to the rest of the world. I read an interesting article about Commissioner Goodell recently and it seems that he came into the job with a reputation of being more of a disciplinarian but now it seems like he's not going to be any different from years past. It's a shame that this will only be a two-game suspension. The other problem with this situation is that during the press conference that Rice had with his then-fiance now wife is that SHE apologized for her behavior. What in the world? I guess some women will do anything to be the wife of a pro athlete. [Edited 7/28/14 9:57am] Trolls be gone! |

And we still do not know (and we most like will never know) if Ray's then-fiance threw the first hit or not.
The very fact that she apologized for her behavior (whatever it was that night) tell me that there wrongs on her part equally as much as Ray's part.

Yeah it's possible that she may have hit him first. But, I think for a woman to apologize for getting beat up is what is scary. She chose to apologize to him at a press conference about his nonsense. I think she just wants the fame, or he must be really good in bed Trolls be gone! |

Yes , I do.
Tony would understand my reference because we've had numerous heated debates about domestic abuse on this forum. So, he knows my stance... isn't new. Sadly, violence espcially in the USA and in the African-American community are at epidemic levels. We teach our children when some one hits you, you hit back; sadly this shit extends to adulthood. Unless your life is in danger, you are to remove yourself from the situation and if need be, call the police.
How many times have I heard clients in jail moaning are groaning about what everyone else did but they arrested me. You were seen doing the deed your partners weren't... you got caught. Oh well.

Oh ok, got it. Yeah I hear you. I was telling a teen relative of mine something along the lines of what you wrote. When you are engaged in combat, a judge, teacher or cop isn't going to take the time to find out why something happened or who struck first. So, I was like, you defend yourself with just enough force to GET AWAY but do not engage in mutual combat because then you're in trouble to. I really hope they learn this but I am not really convinced of it just yet. And especially because people are so quick to videotape every single damn thing they see, when people get fights caught on tape, you almost never see what leads up to the fight. By the time people get their phones out, the fists are already flying so everyone is unequivocally guilty. I told my relative to learn how not to escalate the situation but to difuse the situation. I hope their ears were open when I was saying this. Trolls be gone! |

Lets put this in proper context. No man or woman should be laying their hands to physically hurt anyone. With that said, if any woman lands the first punch, kick, and/or spit on the man, that same man has every right to defend himself. Period.

I took a chance today and watched The View and they were talking about Ray Rice. Whoopi said the same thing you are saying here, Tony. Basically, she was saying that if you hit a man, you should be prepared to get hit back. She wasn't saying it was okay to do it but she was just dishing out the reality of it all. Trolls be gone! |

And Sister Whoopi was right when she said the same thing concerning the Jay-Z vs. Solange fallout. And I said in all fairness that by not defending himself at all, Jay handled the situation a lot better than I would have. And he was punched, kicked, AND spatted on! |

2 games was definitely a joke. That's why Mr. Ray isn't appealing. Don't laugh at my funk

Sounds like he got a slap on the wrist. The first two games aren't so critical in a season. But, slap a 4-game suspension on him, then that changes everything. What a shame. Trolls be gone! |

I stand by your words (and Whoopi's) too. I don't go for that bs unwritten rule of society, that a man has to stand there and take being pummeled on by a woman. Fuck that - assault is assault (what if the woman is bigger than the man...then what?). And what if she has a weapon?
Like I always say, you want to cross the line and put your hands on someone trying to act all rough? Fine, but there's no tapping out when the shit gets real.
Now if I was in Jay-Z's situation, would I hit back with everything I've got? No, but I'll shake the shit out of her.

I have my occasion differences of opinons with Stephen A. Smith. But his take on the Ray Rice fallout and how things can go wrong in a relationship is 100% spot on! Women need to take some responsiblity for their actions. If a woman knows the man that she is having a heated argument with is bigger and powerful than her, why in the hell would she physically assault him first or in general? Just as bad, why would a woman try so hard to verbally say certain things (EXAMPLE: name calling, questioning his manhood, whatever) in an attempt to bait the man in doing something wrong so she can get him in trouble with the law, setting him up for a lawsuit, setting him up for a potential career downfall, and/or whatever else?
There are the kind of questions that some white women do not like to hear coming from any man. But these same women need to stop being so naive as if they're not aware that women can be guilty for provoking controvesy in a relationship. [Edited 7/28/14 22:04pm] |

My view is this - if I'm hit, I hit back until the mfer is no longer a threat. Diffuse the situation by taking him out as quickly as possible (because he might have a weapon) and deal with the consequences later. I haven't been in a situation like that since high school and that was over 30 years ago. Of course living in NYC, I've had my share of confrontations, but nothing more, because I won't throw the first punch. I follow my dad's advice - 'don't start shit and don't take any'. |

White men in this country still pull black people out of cars and beat the shit out of use... if we are lucky. When It comes to that.... all 'we' do is mumble under our breaths and care on. All of you brothas just take it, why? So, I'm always amazed how arbitrarily the play ground logic or ghetto rules works.
Honestly. if you agree with Mr. Smith logic, I'm looking at you sideways because he's always been a pathetic clown. So much so even his own mother got in his ass about he comment and he backtracked. What if Mr. Rice girlfriend -now wife- had struck her head on something and she had been killed? Would it hae still been worth it? Would Rice still have a NFL career? NO. You have folks in prison today during serious time because of a hit or shoved killed someone. Regardless of the bullshit logic Mr. Smith gave to excuse what happen to Mrs. Rice. I'll repeat this goes a long way in explaining the level of violence we tolerate in this country.

I don't put it past sportscasters to say dumb stuff just to kick up controversy and stay relevant. But, the likelihood of him being delusional and "above" social problems is very high as well. The way he was blatantly pulling for Miami, when you're supposed to be neutral, really turned me off to this bozo. Telling women not to provoke men so they don't hit you? What's he smoking? How many women really get beat down because the toast was burnt? Please.... Trolls be gone! |
