I just had this conversation with some friends, and it was hilarious to hear some of their childhood stories...

How did you find out about sex and where babies come from? Parents? Teachers? On your own? How?

via wonderful things such as my dad's porn stash, some human sexuality textbook my mom had, and the ability 2 be able 2 read at a very young age.

they didn't teach me, really--they pretty much left it up 2 the public school system 2 teach me. that, and my mom passed away before i even reached prepubescent-hood, so no woman's perspective there, and my dad couldn't really teach me (only advice he gave: keep them ugly boys away from my house ) no "birds & bees" talk, i was intelligent enough 2 know and figure out what wuz what...guess that's why my attitude towards sex is a bit warped, really.

I come from a little village in Holland that was inbedded in farms (now it's television stars) and I used to watch them cows, horses and sheep go at it and figured it out myself.

My mother took me to the doctor when I got my first rag. Luckily the doctor was female, and she kindly told me all that I needed to know - at 11. Friends took care of the rest of the explaining.

I learned about the birds and the bees by sneaking under my sister’s bed, where she kept a number of textbooks and a copy of “Our Bodies, Our Selves.” By 4th Grade, I was an expert on the clinical aspects of human sexuality – much to the surprise of friends and teachers. I got the street “low down” (and very accurately so, in retrospect) by a playboy friend of mine who was about five years my senior. He had all the neighborhood girls and was willing to answer any questions I had… and even several I was afraid to ask. My parents never discussed sex with me, and if it were left to them, I’d still be clueless at 30.
