If you haven't seen Requiem For A Dream it may make you reconsider Marlon.

I would say that if Cannon is going to get the role then it's all or nothing for him. If he screws this up or Daniels lets him down in terms of direction, it will hurt his acting career. But if it comes off well sky's the limit for him.

Agreed.

If Nick pulls this off I'll be the first to say I was mistaken.

What do you think of Lee Daniels directing this? I can't imagine what approach he will take.

I agree. Where is John Singleton, Spike Lee, Scorsese or the Hughes Brothers? To me, it seems that Lee Daniels has kind of boxed himself into a very narrow category that he caters to in his movies. I could be wrong but it would be great to have one of the other directors that I mentioned.

Robert Townsend or Keenen Wayans would be my choice for director. Both knew Pryor and both are good friends with Paul Mooney.

Those are good choices as well for director. I wonder how Lee Daniels was able to get the green light on this. Oprah maybe?

I liked The Butler but it had kind of a Disney vibe to it. I think someone's story like Richard Pryor would warrant having a gritty, edgy kind of feel to it. What do you think?

Richard Pryor just can't be imitated but it seems that Marlon Wayans could be a great choice. The problem with doing something like this is that there are talented actors, such as Jaime Foxx, that have the acting chops to pull it off but everyone wants a lookalike actor to play the part. That's almost impossible to do, but there have been exceptions such as how Jaime Foxx portrayed Ray Charles flawlessly. There are some people that just can't be duplicated and it seems Pryor is one of them.

I heard Pryor's wife wants Terrance Howard to play the role.

popcorn This is going to get interesting....

Academy Award nominated Terrance Howard is a Good actor..Very versatile...If he wasnt his own worst Enemy at times he'd probably be making more movies..I wouldnt cast him as Pryor even thought I think he could pull it off...I'd go with someone that people arent expecting..Terrence has become sort of a "go to actor"...He'll pretty much get that Decent role that calls for a Black Male actor...

rolleyes Terrance is a HORRIBLE actor! Although he was good in The Butler". Every character he plays can be inserted in any movie he does. He has no range whatsoever. He is only hired because of his looks. I don't get his appeal @ all. disbelief Plus he is stuck on himself.

I can't really say who'd be my first choice. I would have liked to see what Steve McQueen would have done with the material.

Light skin (non-bleached) and light eyes (that aren't contacts)...start there smile I kind of agree with you about the lack of range. He either plays a hothead or a smooth operator in his movies. He's been like that for a while. It seems like he is always playing his own real-life persona in these movies smile

You'd mentioned Scorcese, whose King of Comedy was well regarded. His career was on the rise as Richard was in his prime, so I'd have to believe they came at some point in the 70s/80s.

I'd also feel good about Spike doing it; I can't believe after making one of the best biopics of a generation, Malcolm X, he hasn't had the opportunity to do others.

Don't get me started. I just saw Oldboy this weekend... disbelief

I better not ever hear Spike Lee criticize another director again as long as he lives.

I guess Oliver Stone is out of the question after the mlk thing.

Oliver Stone is another good choice. Yes, it seems strange that Spike was dissing Tyler Perry's work and now all of a sudden I'm seeing photos of those two together? Maybe it was all for publicity. smile

I still don't know what Nick Cannon was thinking going on TMZ and acting like he had the role locked up. Isn't that bad luck or something? I hope he doesn't end up embarassed if the movie is a stinker or if it goes to someone else.

For some reason he did a remake of some Korean flick called Oldboy and it was a hot mess.

There was a time when he probably would have been my first choice but I dunno about him lately, lol

..LOL...So you don't think he deserved the Oscar nomination for Hustle & Flow? He gave a BRILLIANT performance..Taraji P,. Henson should have been nominated as well....Even the movie's theme song "It's hard out here for a Pimp" was nominated for Oscar's Song of the year and won...Did you see the movie where he coaches a young Black swimming Team? he was good in that. Terrance has proven that he is capable of delivering a believable acting performance...I Love Don Cheadle but he was the WRONG replacement in Iron Man. Terrance fit that role perfectly...What happens to a lot of Popular Black actors (only a handful make the A-List) is they get used for ALL the Black roles in White films and you say to yourself "There are 1,000's of good & Great Black actors but the studio keeps passing around this same face?"....All Taraji needs is a 1 good Dramatic flick that features her and she'll get a 2nd Oscar nomination..She has a unique gift at pulling the viewer into a scene and you want to see her more & more..She's powerful..So she's got the skillzz but she has to do magic tricks to get work...And Gollywood is so freaking LIBERAL...Yeah, right...

"Hustle & Flow" was a very good movie with an ensemble cast that delivered! His role wasn't that groundbreaking to me. Terrance messed up his chances of becoming a A-list actor by demanding more of a pay raise for Iron Man. Instead of just asking for the back end profits. That movie was a guaranteed smash & he messed his chances up. Now what is he doing? Back to TV. His stuck up attitude has given him the reputation of being difficult to work with. Ask the cast of "The Best Man 2"!

The reason they use the same black actors is because they like familiarity and don't want to take a chance on losing a build in audience. So they use the same black actors that EVERYBODY is familiar with.

Taraji is a very good actress! I use to work with her on the TV drama "The Division" years ago. It is not a lot of good movie roles for black actresses to chose from. Which is why a lot of them are turning to TV. Halle Berry, Octavia Spencer, & Viola Davis (the last two very nice women) are all heading leading roles in new TV dramas this up coming season season.

Gollywood smile That's funny! Well, I think Terrance is a good actor but it seems that he plays the same kind of part over and over again. Maybe it's for the reasons that you said (i.e. shuffling from one studio to the next). I like him but I can't see him playing Richard Pryor at all.

I can't picture Nick Cannon being able to convey all of the facial expressions that Richard Pryor was able to relay. Pryor's expressions were a part of his comedy. Cannon is more stoic.

As much as I like Cannon for being a somewhat positive role model in Hollywood from my generation to now, his well-known status as a "cornball" keeps me from being able to see him portraying someone like Richard Pryor. Just knowing that this fool took up smoking in an attempt to somehow "channel" Pryor is pretty stupid. Dumb. Ass. Pick up cocaine and heroine while you're at it.
