A question 4 everyone except Americans (USA)

I know profanities/cursing/bad words r not allowed on radio and TV in the US but I was wondering if it was true in other English-speaking countries (Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand) as well or if it was an American specificity. And while we're at it if u're from another country using another language, what's the situation at home?

.

I'm asking because in France profanities were never considered an issue on mass medias (well maybe in the 60's and earlier but being born in 76 I can remember hearing them as far as I can remember, i.e. late 70's/early 80's): we would never had the need for such a thing as a censored version of Sexy MF 2 b sent to radios and TV's for example (had the song been in French). So I was wondering. I remember MTV Europe used 2 play the censored version of Sexy MF, though, and it was based in UK at the time but IDK if it was an extension of the channel's US policy or something UK asked 4 as well.

.

Thx 4 sharing smile

Australia here: I think after a certain timeslot (ie when kids have gone to bed) the f word is allowed. It might be 9:30pm. I'm not sure about the C word. The ABC has tons of brit drama shows, none of which I ever remember being bleeped out, so maybe C word is OK too.

I'm the mistake you wanna make

Cursing is only controlled between the times of 6am and 10pm on broadcast TV in the U.S. Cable and satellite don't have a ban on cursing.
