Today I Witnessed Fear Of The Unknown

Today, I stopped into my local Blockbuster Video store.

The crew, some kids ages range from 18 to 20ish.

As I brought my dvd's to the counter to pay, I overheard their conversation.

Normally, these conversations would be of their plans for the weekend, or their cars or their schoolwork.

But, these are not normal times.

The young men's conversation was of the pending war we are facing. The conversation was of the draft, would they (the govt.) inact it? Would they be drafted? Would they be going to war? Would they be coming back?

They were being cool... they were laughing... but, I could see the "cool" was a cover, and the laughter was nervous.

These kids were afraid. This is an actual quote.

"Well, I hear if we go to war and fight, we would have free medical care for the rest of our lives, if we make it back.", says one kid.

"That's if we make it back!", says another.

These are kids that would normally be talking about their girlfriends or their cars...

I was sad. I'm 37... I've got a wife and three kids... I worry about their future. I worry about these kids at Blockbuster's future too.

sad
