Belgium 2 USA 1 F/ET

bawl fit wall pout sigh disbelief

I only caught the end of this match, but apparently Belgium was absolutely relentless in this game, and it was only the Herculean efforts of GK Tim Howard that kept the USA in the game in the first place. He apparently made a record number of saves in this game (16), but the Belgians just wore us down.

The USA has made some huge strides in their soccer program, but they still have a ways to go before they can compete legitimately with UEFA or Brazilian league squads.

when the US learns to play like the last 10 minutes of the game for 90 minutes, we will win this kind of games.

The problem with the US and other teams is that when the team is not the aggressor it becomes the victim.

16 saves by the US goolie is not a good sign.

I hope that someday we can develop high level caliber soccer players and coaches.

4 months + media circus for a bloodless bite, but this guy (Matuidi) gets away with this:

the victim has his left tibia, fibula and ligaments completely severed

FIFA = corrupt scum

Matuidi = scum

I agree that FIFA has a bunch of arsehole directors and stuff, but what does this tackling have to do with the organisation?

And yes, it was an awful challenge, but Matuidi usually isn't that kind of player. It was simply mistimed.

This is how to lose and k...r dignity:

This is how not to loose. This girl does not understand that Robben should have got 2 penalty's in stead of one. And that the last one was a legitimate penalty. Apparently the Mexicans and the English prefer to bash Robben, in stead of taking their loss graciously. Sad.

Every soccer team has players who make schwalbes. The only person who is honest about it, and apologizes, gets to be scrutinized about it.

What I learned from this; don't be honest, don't apologize. Just play dirty like the rest and always deny your mistakes.

That's how it works apparently.

I think it's a bit overdramatized and too much focus on Suarez.

There is a lot of kicking each others ankles and legs, and that is way more harmfull than this bite.

I guess it's a good subject to make fun of, but I think there should be more attention for foul play.

The thing is a dangerous mistimed tackle is part of the game. It's hard to prove intent. Running over to a stranger from behind off the ball and biting them is not part of the game, it's criminal assault and if you did that on the street you'd spend the night in a cell. It's the third time he's done it and his "4 month ban" includes 2 months of no competitive football so I really don't understand the objection. How have we gone so wrong in society when some of us see this kind of assault as no big deal.

falloff

Did you know there are hundred of thousands of rape kits waiting for investigation on the shelves in police stations?

If rape isn't considered to be worthy of investigating, why should a shallow bite be criminal?

Not only Costa Rica is a very good team overall, but they also have, probably, the best penalty takers (5/5 wow) AND a good goalkepper; wow, the dutch are going to suffer

Nah, 65/35 ball possession in favor of Holland (for this first time this WC) and an easy 2-0 victory. wink

I don't think it's going to be easy for Holland.

And honestly, the way the world responded after Robben apologized for his mistake, and pointed out that he should have got 2 penalty's in stead of 3, makes me less interested.

Surely, I would like the Dutch to win. But if this is what you get for winning, I don't mind losing anymore.

Diving is not 'playing dirty'. It's unfortunate, but it had to become part of the game for different reasons (one of them being self-protection). Diving doesn't necessarily mean that there's no foul involved!

Robben's penalty, for instance: Dive? Yes. Penalty? Yes, absolutely.

yep that's it

many say that Brazil has the support of their whole country but in my opinion that's a curse, not a blessing; against Colombia they played anxiously and one can say they're terrified of losing in front of their own people; and now Neymar is gone: Germany will reach the final nod

and yes, the dutch SUCK, oh yes, they played their best game against Spain but that's about it; if Argentina don't mess around and Messi scores a goal, they'll reach the final without difficulties...

Germany vs Argentina, now that'll be something

Yes. It really is horrible what happened to him. I'm sure it wasn't the intention, but it's not fair play to even take that risk and jump on him.

Let's hope he will heal and does not endure lasting injuries.

No team has been brilliant this time, and I cannot predict Brazil v Germany. I hope Brazil edge it though, but it's gonna be hard (and potentially boring as all teams will be tentative somewhat, particually Germany).

So that leaves Holland and Argentina. I'd give the win to the orange guys. Argentina rely's too much on Messi and as great as he is, the team don't look as strong as Holland to me. Though Holland were lacking against Costa Rica though, so again, no team has been great really LOL.

If Germany score first (doubtful), then it's game over. They will close them down and frustrate them. Heck, they may do that at 0-0 and go to penalties. I don't think they have lever literally missed a penalty, let alone be knocked out in a shootout LOL. An early goal in both games is a must to make it more exiting. I get the feeling Brazil will try hard on this and I hope they do.....

Germany 7 Brazil 1

Holy God D*** M*****f***** S#!+! omg omfg shocked I knew Brazil was uncharacteristically struggling in this World Cup and was up against it without Neymar, but this was a frickin' massacre. This was the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks bad. I know Germany is a pre-eminent power in international soccer, but this was absolutely pathetic. I don't think a healthy Neymar would have made a difference in this game. Heck, I don't thing getting Marty McFly's Delorean time machine to go back and get Pele, Romario, and Ronaldo in their prime and granting Tim Howard immediate Brazilian citizenship so he could play goalkeeper would have made a difference in this game. I would not have been surprised to see this result by Gerrmany against Iran, or Bosnia, or even the USA, but against Brazil? In their home country even? This has to be one of the most epic takedowns in sports history. disbelief But congrats to Germany though.

ah, but that's the point, precisely; this generation of brazilian footballers is meh at best; with Neymar and Thiago Silva in the starting lineup it could have been a 2-4 loss (that's bad, but at least not the 1-7 HISTORIC debacle), Julio Cesar (the gk) was miserable/bland/slow/clueless/weak in FOUR of the seven goals, at the very least...

Well, that was another of the many surprises of this championship.

Very painful. Brasil missed their star and forgot to bribe an arbiter?

Well, the Germans have consistently played very good and their game is great to watch.

I think the Germans have a huge psychological dominance over Argentina/Holland.

This championship has been one of many surprises and as the Dutchies are still in the game, I'm pretty nervous about tommorows match.

Allthough I'm not really looking forward to a final of Holland against Germany.

That is going to be extremely tense.

Which goals? Julio Cesar is poor alright, but yesterday it was actually David Luiz who let himself and his team down completely. He was out of position for 6 of the 7 goals they conceded, and still continued bombing forward like there was no tomorrow, instead of trying to slow down the game for 10-15 minutes after going down 2-0 to regain some control. His was one of the worst individual performances I've ever seen.

And to think PSG paid 50(FIFTY) million quid for him...
