Can someone help me figure out something? When the players are arguing with the referees, are they arguing in English or their native language? Are all of the futbol players fluent in every language on the planet? smile Someone help me figure this out. Thanks! smile

English is the main football language. Most of the time it's broken English, of course.

Thanks for your response smile I kid you not, just a few minutes after I typed this question, there was a play that happened between France and Honduras and I could hear the referee yelling at the player in Spanish. But, he would only say one or two words. smile So yes, thanks for telling me the answer to this question. I'll see if I can hear their broken English wink

I guess they can also use body language to see if a player is being rude to the referee and gets the red card wink

Well, obviously some people know some Spanish too. Players, for instance, often pick up other languages from playing in other leagues, and the refs know where they play, so if a Japanese player plays in Italy and the refs knows some Italian, he will of course talk in Italian to him.

That said, however, most non-English refs hardly ever bother explaining their decision and simply control the game by hand-signs, or say something like 'carerul, one more and it's a yellow!' at a stretch.

Anyone watching the Argentina Bosnia match?

If the Bosnian own goal is the only goal of this match (which i'm suspecting may well be the case) I'm gutted for Bosnia, cos they are playing better than Argentina right now..

One minute they want peace……

Then do everything to make it go away. rolleyes

Messi had a rather disappointing game, I thought. And his goal was deflected even...

Still, Bosnis lacked the grit and final ball to truly hurt Argentina.

Yeah, Bosnia had good ideas but their finishing was terrible, so very few 'legitmate' goals from them.

It wasnt the best match this tornament but perhaps Argentina can redeem themselves.

I wouldn't say Italy. Sure they beat us (England), but we played better, and they barely had any shots after 2-1 up. That style of play will (hopefully) be their own undoing. I hate it when teams close up and put everyone behind the ball when they take the lead. I admit England usually do that too though LOL. Hopefully not this time though...

Bosnia surprised me. Very good at closing people down, something England could learn from LOL.

Other than the 0-0 draw between Nigeria and Iran, it's been a good world cup so far. Not every game is gonna be a classic, but the goal difference from 4 years ago is already double from what I heard, so thats good.

As for USA and Ghana, congrats to USA as it was a must win game really. DissaPointed in Ghana. USA and Germany should be interesting as USA's manager Klingsman is a legend in Germany LOL.

An upset maybe?

Germany always look good but also always seem to underperform in the knockout stages. Too early to tell for anyone at the moment....Croatia were robbed with that disallowed goal though. WTF was that about?

Too early to tell. USA tend to get throiugh their group, so that won't be surprising. Having said that, the group they are in is tough and anything could happen.

I wonder if Honduras can get 3 red cards in 3 consecutive games LOL. Dirty fuckers. Couldn't believe how dirty they were against England in our friendly, then again against France. Seriously they are the

dirtiest team I have seen in awhile.

Germany and Italy are great teams this year.

America wins, but not because they can play good. They just (ab)use the rules of the game in their favor. I guess that doesn't matter for most Americans, it's just about the result. But they might get lucky and pass the first rounds.

Australia played good. That Chilli won, seemed unfair. I hope Australia will beat Spain and that Spain will beat Chilli. And that Australia and Netherlands will be even. In my dreams, Australia and Holland will continue. In reality it's probably Chilli and Holland.

The Dutch played well, but I fear they are too fragile to win. Their succes seems to depend heavily on external factors. If they get a referee, who is incompetend/bribed, as they did against the memorable match against Portugal a few years ago, they get emotional and don't play well.

Well, I would not equal being emotional with being a baby. I don't think there is anything bad with that. It's just something that is not alien to them.

These men are actual humans, they have feelings and emotions.

They can get played on that, though.

With fragile I don't mean the fact that they have emotions. I mean the fact that that is used against them.

Unfortunately.

key players from the 10-12 era (Iniesta, Pique, Busquets, Ramos) out of shape due to injuries (mostly) during 2014, other veteran players near retirement (Alonso, Xavi, Casillas, Torres, Villa) or retired already! (Puyol)

end of an era...
