Could A Show Like The Cosby Show Exist Today? I wonder if a show like The Cosby Show could be made today. A show that was clever, funny, poignant, and also incredibly G rated. Most sitcoms nowadays try to be racy or have lots of sexual jokes. Some funny... some are 3rd grade. And if a show came in as G rated it would be seen as boring and square. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

If the show were as well written as The Cosby Show, why not? As preachy as it got later on (Sondra naming her twins Nelson and Winnie? ), the first few seasons were gold, because they were real and relatable - for families of any race. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, good TV is always a happy surprise. It was good till Raven appeared. (The first 5 seasons are good) . 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

CORRECTION: It was good until Denise left for university and then dropped out after her freshman year.

It was better with Denise, but it was good for the first 5 years for me. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I think so. I think it's telling that the show premiered within a short time after Bill Cosby -- Himself, which premiered in 1983, around the same time Eddie released Delirious and Richaed released Live On The Sunset Strip. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I was thinking of Modern Family too, it has lasted quite well, also The Simpsons, though that may be PG You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

I would think so Especially since people love reruns of shows from that time and before and shows like Friends, the Golden Girls
I think Hot In Cleveland is still pretty tame I think there are a lot of shows that give or take are similar to the Cosby show and since people of all ethnic backgrounds still love it, a show would work
There was a show maybe late 1990s early 2000s called Once & Again I somehow fell into and enjoyed

It could exist. But shows are not written like they once were. I do miss shows like the Cosby Show. Those shows were great.

a show like the Cosby show in an up to date version can/could exist today. Successful main characters profiles was the key for the longevity of the series. the show also highlighted the educational goals Claire and cliff set for their children without a bunch of 1950's television buffoonary as in 'Amos and Andy.
IMO much of the current scripting done for black//African american actors in television is comedy alone, with very little drama. in the comedy series, actors go through extreme physical gestering and pointless banter to get from point a to point b in the plots. seems like intelligence has left the room for most of the shows that employs today's blank actors/actors during peak hour television viewing (and please don't get me started of clownary of the real house?wives of Atlanta). Would that be the same Bill Cosby who had two women accuse him of drugging and date raping them? [Edited 6/12/14 14:01pm]
