ABC picks up sitcom "Black-ish" starring Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Laurence Fishburne (trailer inside)

Black-ish: Andre 'Dre' Johnson (Anthony Anderson) is about to be promoted to Vice President of Relevant Advertising. He and his physician wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), are living the American dream: great careers, four beautiful kids, and a Colonial home in an upper middle class neighborhood. However, Dre starts to see his perfect life differently when he discovers that he's being promoted to "Urban" VP at his firm and in the same week, his son announces that he wants to have a Bar Mitzvah. All of a sudden it hits Dre: Has success brought too much assimilation? Is his family of out of Touch with their own identity? Dre's opinionated, old school father, Pops (Laurence Fishburne), and his liberal wife have very different opinions about how Dre should handle the promotion and Dre Jr.'s birthday request. But Dre has it all under control. In order to prove that he hasn't lost Touch with his roots, he presents an extreme version of an "Urban" marketing campaign at work that raises more than a few eyebrows. He also decides to throw an African Rites of Passage ceremony for his mortified son. Ultimately, Dre's family helps him realize that the best way to live is by embracing the new while honoring the past. He decides to throw his son a hip hop Bro Mitzvah and the successful event inspires him to create a multicultural ad campaign that wows everyone at The Office. Living the American dream isn't easy, but Dre is determined to find a way to hold onto his cultural identity while embracing a new future in this comedy that is written and loosely based on the life of Kenya Barris (The Game), and executive produced by Larry Wilmore (Bernie Mac).

ABC Greenlights 'Selfie', 'Manhattan Love Story', 'Agent Carter', 'Forever', 'How to Get Away With Murder', 'Black-ish', 'American Crime', 'Galavant' & 'The Whispers'

Will you watch?

I like Ellis-Ross and Anderson, so I'm willing to check it out. I just hope the writers don't go overboard with bad stereotyping.

(with regards to the bad stereotyping) As long as the handle it the way All In The Family did -mostly by backfiring.

sigh The only one who is funny-ish is Fishburne. If the show will be any indication of what was presented in this trailer, then I'm not hopeful....however, I'll still tune in to watch the first few episodes to support it and give it a chance.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I'll say this...If they can get 70% of the SAME viewers that fell in Love with "My Wife & Kids" then the show will last 5-plus years. It's hard for Black sitcoms to make it on ABC, CBS & NBC....

****************************************************************************

How much y'all wanna bet some people will CONFUSE Tracee Ellis Ross with Chef Carla from "The Chew"?...LOL...That is going to happen...

Abc doesn't hold on to these kinds of shows (all that stereo typing). The show seems doomed.

They can all do better honestly. Anthony Anderson is actually a really good actor. He had some great dramatic roles in The Shield, Hustle & Flow, and The departed.

And Lawrence of course has had many great roles. But recently they have been doing below average comedies or action flicks... meh.

I like Damon and Tiesha. I tried to give the show a chance but I wasnt feeling it. It was a bonafide Hit for ABC. I don't care for any of the Sitcom shows created from 2000 to 2014. I miss the 90's sappy shows like "Full House", "Growing Pains", "Family Matters", "Perfect Strangers"...That's when TGIF was Good....

Anthony got a quick gig after the cancellation of Jimmy Fallon's "Guys With Kids" on NBC! I've lost count of his other cancellations. But he is a funny dude! Tracee after witnessing a sharp tongue lashing she gave someone on "GirlFriends" for asking her about her mama. I don't like her attitude. But at least the pilot got picked up. Hopefully it will last...

I'm sorry but cultural negation and cluelessness are too serious for me to be made light of and I have a great sense of humor. I won't be checkin' for it. Wouldn't be surprised if it does well. If it lasts, I hope it gets better than that trailer. REALLY, a "rites of passage" as an INTRO to African-ness....SIGH eek

For some reason I'm incredibly amused by the completely unrelated hyperlinks in this story.

Even if this show is good, it will most likely fail. It's hard for new sitcoms to survive on ABC, let alone a black sitcom. And they put it in the 8:30 CST slot which is the Wednesday night kiss of death. I, myself use that particular time slot to take out the garbage and wash my dishes before Nashville comes on. I do hope I'm wrong but I'm probably not. I will be adding it to my DVR list.

Shake it til ya make it dancing jig
