I played hooky and went to see the big X-Men movie Wednesday. I want to see First Class and this again before I make any final call on which I'd rank higher, but I definitely like both films a lot more than the first three films in the series. I remember really enjoying the lighter sixties elements of First Class and there's not much lightness in this one, and I found the ending maybe a touch too upbeat (original story had an ambiguous ending I think), but why nitpick? A good one no doubt. The Quicksilver scene might be my favourite part of any comic book movie to date. 4/5 |

This was on TV, last night. I only saw a bit of it, but this is the kind of movie I hate (characters doing unlikely things, in an unlikely manner).

Neighbors with Seth Rogan and Zac Efron. The Zac Efron part should have been enough warning. It was a terrible, terrible movie.
Who keeps giving Seth Rogan money to make movies? |

You are on fire today. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

I actually like Seth Rogen flicks, I know they're cheesy and all but they're so goddamn funny, Superbad, This Is The End, Pinneaple Express... these are milestones of 10's comedy style. |

Short Term 12 - 4/5 A few elements seemed a touch contrived & melodramatic, but that aside I'd definitely rate this as one of the best indie films I've seen over the last few years.
Like Someone in Love - 3/5 - Covers some of the same ideas as Certified Copy, though not as successfully I'd say.

I've only seen him in a few things and they generally haven't been my type of movies. But I find the guy, himself, very unpretentious and likable. And I thought he acquitted himself quite decently in Take This Waltz.

He gave a decent performance in a deeply flawed movie, The Paperboy. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I will never understand the popularity of Adam Sandler movies. The few I've seen...I could not believe that anyone would like these things.
That said, I've heard some funny and (believe it or not) insightful bits from some of his CDs. I'm thinking about the tracks "What the Hell Happened to Me?" and "At a Medium Pace".

The whole thing with spiders in the movie is indeed interesting. But there are great interpretations of the movie online (YouTube for example). Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right? |

Beacause it's not a Woody Allen film.

Actually, I've been making a concerted effort to watch more fictional movies. This just doesn't appeal to me.

This is Martin Bonner - 4/5 - low-key with no plot to speak of, but it's lingered in my head for days.

Grand Budapest Hotel. Loved it. Peabody and Sherman. Why? August: Osage County. What a sad movie. Good performances though. 3 Days to Kill. Why Kevin Costner? Why? |

I fucking dug it to the max, Like, that was the best thing I've seen in 2014... great everything: cinematography, music, characters, dialogues, story... Wes Anderson is probably the most unique & original filmmaker in our time, it's just great how he keeps writing & directing these masterpieces without giving up or watering 'em down....
Again, the cinematography on this particular film is something marvelous.... the use of colors, the dimensions, the capture of the scenes, they way the characters are framed in a very colorful angle.... It was magical!! |

Escape From Tomorrow - 2/5 - Once you get past the novelty of the film (and it's an interesting novelty, I think - shot guerilla style without permission at disney world), it really doesn't hold together.
