Contractors! I am so damn disgusted. I am trying to get estimates for a bathroom remodel. I made an appointment with this company to come out today at 11:00 AM. What pisses me off is that this company has called me several time to confirm the appointment I made for today. Two days ago I made the appointment and each day after that someone would call me to confirm the appointment, and each time they quoted a different time and date. I finally told them the only day I would be available would be today at 11:00 AM. At 9:45 AM, someone called and left a message asking if they could come a little earlier at 10:00 AM. Since I wasn't available to answer the phone for that request, I didn't call back and just assumed they would show up at 11:00. I'm still freakin waiting and it's going on 1:00 PM. If when they call back, I will tell them I no longer want to do business with them. They're a bunch of keystone cop acting fools. Why so so called professionals act this way? They want folk to spend thousands of dollars for their services, but theydon't have the common decency to call and say they can't make it or will be late. This has happened to me several time with other contracts. That just pisses me off big time. I arrange my day to make time to see these fools and possibly hire them for the job and they act like they don't need the work. Any of you have this problem?

If you are having this much trouble just getting an estimate it could mean you are in for more of the same if you hire them to redo your bathroom.

I feel ya. I am in the midst of interviewing contractors for a job. I'm on my 6th this wknd and will make my decision then. They almost never show up on time, quotes are all over the map and you really have to do your research. Researching online is very helpful. I know contractors pay people for reviews but I also go to their facebook pages. I've gone as far as calling someone I can see has used for references. AND I always ask for a copy of their Insurance Certificate.
I had one contrator follow up and when I mentioned that his references weren't making me warm and fuzzy, nor was the lawsuit I found... not only did he, but someone else got on another line and both started yelling at me for believing the review. I eventually had to hang up the phone. They then carried it on in an email with all kinds of excuses. Hey Bud - you lost your cool just by me asking for a ref. so ain't no way in hell you're even in the running anymore.
It's very stressful. Be sure you get at least 3 or 4 quotes. Good luck with your work.

I love my contractor. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

There should be contractors you can hire that can deal with contractors. Just the right balance of legalese jargon, menace and big shoes. I'm the mistake you wanna make

they have tight schedules to follow from the home office, but get held up along the way. that being said, a lot are disorganized and/or dishonest. check online at your local court case link to see if they've been sued. for minnesotans, that link is here: http://pa.courts.state.mn...fault.aspx

Thanks, folks. I found the articles helpful, too. I wish Mr. Holmes lived near me. I would hire him in a heartbeat. I watch his show and admire his work ethic. I don't mind paying for quality work, but I don't want ot pay more than I have to either. I had an estimate done by the same company that did my kitchen, but they gave me a ridiculous quote just for a shower, $11,000, and that was not for tile either! They though they were doing me a favor by chopping off another $2000. I refused to pay that. I could understand that for a complete remodel including fixtures, labor and materials, but that amount of money for a teeny, tiny shower stall is just ridiculous.
