Using a portable fan - should window be open or closed? When it's hot out, and you're trying to cool down an apartment with a portable fan, should you leave the window open or closed?

That reminds me - sooner or later (and I sincerely hope it's sooner), I am going to wear a cape ala Prince.

you will want the fan pointin outward if you live in an arid area, it keeps the air cooler. you could sit a bucket of ice in front of it, if you face it inward. that's always a nice breeze i am KING BAD!!!
you are NOT... STOP ME IF YOU HEARD THIS BEFORE...

Closed on a hot day. Fan on inside to circulate and exhaust fan on in the bathroom to remove the hot air out. If it cools down at night open window and suck in cold air. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

depends on the relative temperature. if it's cooler inside than out, windows closed, and vice versa. those little indoor fountains also cool the room. some folks have an entire waterwall that not only sounds great but keeps things nice and chill
