Translation aside...just been wondering what your opinion is of the notion that 'nice guys finish last'...Ace.

I think it's a completely misguided one because most people have misguided notions of what brings about long-term happiness.

er

You made me curious, so I tried Google Translate. No luck. Apparantly there's no term in Latin for "nice guys," because it came back as...nice guys! I used to know a Prince fan who had studied the language but unfortunately, we haven't stayed in touch.

Fortuna favet fatuis
Fortune favors the fools.
Not exactly a translation, but it's the same idea.

Uh-huh.

I'm wondering if the guys that say that have 'long-term happiness', at the forefront of their minds, but...who knows?

Well, let's hope someone provides a translation that is suitable for you.

cool

i think that if the meaning of "nice guys finish last" is taken to mean sexually finishes last, then indeed the nice guy is a good guy and will find happiness in life (or at least a lot of sex).

Generally, NO ONE takes the phrase to mean that XxAxX...let's not be silly.

This isn't bad, but the translation of this would be more like, "The merciful reach their limit -- or terminate -- last." Probably more of favourable statement than something cynical, as is the English phrase.
