I enjoyed it, too...the first 10 minutes were tense, the last 15-20 minutes were, as well, and the horse-on-the-ferry scene was pretty tense, too...the rest was rather ordinary, I admit...but those three scenes saved the movie from tedium...(for tedium, rent "The Mothman Prophecies"...lol)

I really like the horse scene, the bathtub scene was intense, the scene when she comes out of the television just creeps me out.

I saw the Japanese version a year ago and thought it was very good. I watched the remake this week and have to say it didn't have the same effect - I found the Japanese one a bit scarier. Possibly it disorientated me a little being in a foreign language and that probably added to the effect of the movie, but I think overall it had more atmosphere than the new version.

To be honest scary movies recently haven't been as scary as I would have liked - I'm usually disappointed.

I liked the Rainy Feel throughout the entire movie. I actually turned the ringer off on the phone during the movie because if the phone rang I would have passed out.

That's how it was with me, only in reverse...I saw the U.S. version first, and then watched the Japanese film afterwards, and was disappointed...

I suppose once you've seen it once and know the story (and are still alive more than a week after watching the film!) then it isn't gonna be as good the second time round.

Try this on for size, then...lol:

After I got back late at night from the theatre and seeing "The Ring", I noticed that I had left my DVD player on, even though I had turned off the TV...so I pushed the "off" button on the DVD player before going to bed, and the TV suddenly went to an all-static-and-white-noise screen, JUST like the TVs did in the movie...lol...I fuckin' jumped straight up..lol..I then realized that I had NOT turned off my TV, but that when the DVD player has been left on for awhile, the TV screen goes "blank" and only appears as if it's off (kinda like a computer monitor being on "sleep" mode and appearing as if the computer is not even on)...All I could do was laugh and calm my heart down..lol

FUCK THAT! No fuckin' way!! You poor thing!!

I've been working two jobs and have been really tired and in weird moods. My roommate bought it and I popped it into my computer in my room and tried to watch it there. I didn't think I would like it. I fucking had to turn it off in the beginning, where they find her in the closet and her face... her face... her face...

I could barely sleep that night. It really bothered me for some reason. If I ever try to watch the movie again, it has to be light out and I have to be more calmed down. And maybe try to laugh at it. I never liked horror movies and always made fun of 'em. What's my problem??!! lol

"The Ring" was a great movie...it has totally messed with me. It has only been 4 days since i watched it and yes i'm still freaked out. i have been having my puppy sleep with me as in the movies the horses could sense when evil was around. After watching the movie my boyfriend went into the bathroom leaving me alone in the living room. Within a minute the phone rings and i bolted off the couch screaming...he comes out of the bathroom laughing his ass off as he had taken his cell phone with him to play this evil prank on me. Nice huh! evil

I have to say that the American version will probably remain my favourite if only because of Naomi Watts - I fell in love watching "Mulholland Drive" !

The Ring really fucks with your head. There's so many intriguing qualities about this movie. The plot is very original for a horror movie, and there are some very intense moments. The movie is dense with a dark, brooding atmosphere. And some of the scenes like the burning tree on the hill, and the horse on the ship going mad, were quite powerful not to mention beautiful.

What sets this flick back is there are so many obvious unfinished plot gaps. Like, you could totally not die on the 7th day if you just go out to the country far away from any TV set. I heard in the original that she can appear in any reflection, which would make more sense. But the people who are attacked in this movie always seem to be near a TV right on that 7th day. In the beginning of the movie, where did the second girl go the whole time while the victim was walking around the house screaming for her? How could you not hear your friend yelling for you in a house? It didnt seem that big. And what is this ghost girl gonna do once VCR's become obsolete?

Hidden Feature on The Ring DVD -- Insert the DVD into your player, at the Main Menu press the "up" arrow key On your remote and the cursor will disapear. If you press "Play" now you will see what was on the deadly videotape. Once the clip is over you will be returned too the main menu and then you will hear a phone ring.

This movie was horrible...I saw it in the theater with some friends and we all agreed it was tedious and dragged on too long. Also (maybe because the group of us has watched so many horror movies) we could finish the characters sentences w/o ever having seen the movie before. Many people laughed at the supposedly scary parts (like the horse jumping off the balcony) and many people wanted their $8.50 back after it was over...However if you liked/were scared by The Ring I would suggest checking out a movie called www.fear.com, as the plots and ideas are similar.

WARNING: SPOILERS...

I totally respect the taste of others, and I actually envy those of you who enjoyed the movie (I wish I could come across new horror that moves me), but WHY WHY WHY do so many people get into this crap flick?

The pseudo-prologue was a total Scream ripoff; the kid, the post-funeral scene, the whole “everyone will suffer” tagline and the clumsily blatant rain/water/blue-tint metaphor is a Sixth Sense rip-off; the pace was uneven – first too fast to elicit dread, then too slow to keep interest; the characters were totally undeveloped and not a single one elicited sympathy (the lead lady and her kid were even homely and annoying!); the backstory was contrived; the videotape -- just as Noah mentioned – was “very film school” and unevocative; Rachel’s Nancy Drew escapades were insulting with flashbacks to the tape EVERY time she discovered something new (What did they think? That we’d forget what we saw on a tape so supposedly haunting??); and the acting was only a step above Prince and Apollonia’s. In addition:

* What concern would a turn-of-the-century ghost have with simply having her pathetic story heard, let alone via the mass production of a damned videotape? She wasn't done wrong. So her mom murdered her... what’d she expect? She was PURE evil! And if she was so damned evil, why would she be merciful to anyone for simply making tape copies?
* Why did Samara’s father need all that ridiculous hardware to simply electrocute himself?
* What happened to Noah’s friggin’ legs when he saw a girl climb out of his TV!?! omfg

This movie just SUCKED!

I rented Fear.com...putrid movie..lol...only the queasiness of possibly watching the "doctor" torture the girl was tense...other than that, the rest was very, very ordinary...

Funny about how you said you and your friends reacted to seeing "The Ring", because there were about 3-4 girls sitting to the right of me who were doing much of the same thing thru the movie...the audience would scream, and the girl next to me would say "Oh, please, that's not scary..."...lol...(although she was a little jumpy during the first scene as the girl walked around in the kitchen...heh)...however, when Samara crawled out of the TV, she was saying "Oh my God!!" and scared shitless...lol...I wanted sooo badly to lean over and say "Oh, please, that's not scary" back to her...lol 8)

That's what I wondered too... until I was told that wasn't the case. She is not being merciful to those who simply copying a tape... by them copying that tape they are actually killing more people.

I watched the American version of The Ring and I have to admit it really freaked me out. I can't remember when a horror film has affected this much, The Exorcist and The Sixth Sense only comes closer.

I then saw the original Japanese version Ringu. I liked it. I wasn't creeped out too much by it, which I made me dissapointed but that was because I had only watched the U.S. version first.

I thought the backstory in the Ringu was much better and less complicated than the U.S. one. I feel that both The Ring and Ringu are horror film classics.

The thought the scene where the girl comes out the T.V. was done much better in the U.S. version, because she came out all wet and dirty. That was hella scary.

I think people don't want admit their fear because "it's only a movie." I thought that way to, but the movie still affected me to the point where I was using the "stop" button a lot throughout the movie. People that say they laughed at this movie must have jumped a few times or watched it through their fingers or looked away during the intense parts.
