Name something out-of-the-ordinary for dinner

Do you ever get bored with the usual dinner menu?

Ever make something special or unique that maybe most people don't eat nowadays?

I'm doing this thing every other weekend with my kids (& nieces) where we have a "Special Dinner" on Sunday. They agree to try whatever we make, no complaints, and we don't badger them about trying different foods during the rest of the month.

Dinner 1 was Asian; Japanese Miso soup followed by Korean Bulgogi & a Chinese stir fry.

Dinner 2 was German; Wiener Schnitzel, gurkensalat, potato latkes & egg noodles.

This coming weekend is our next one. I'm thinking maybe Greek (lamb gyros, lemon chicken soup, and of course baklava for dessert!).

Obviously for Orgers in Asia, Germany or Greece...this won't seem "special" lol

So let's have it!

Name something out-of-the-ordinary that you like to have for dinner!!!!

I don't know would be out of the ordinary-just things I don't care for like sauerkraut.

I guess I'm saying out of the ordinary would be things I don't care for very much.

I might add that 2 meals out of the day tend to be basic and rather boring. Dinner is the only meal that I partake in full calorie pleasure.

It's not easy to make. Not that much harder than lasagne though, but you might end up ruining it if you don't prepare the eggplant(s) properly. Silly amounts of cheese will help!

What's out of the ordinary for 1 person may be perfectly common for the next.

The other night I marinated a huge portobello cap in lots of yummy things (balsamic vinegar, garlic, etc.) and grilled it along w/some red peppers and onions, topped it w/a nice herbed havarti and served it on a pretzel bun w/some oven fries on the side. That’s pretty uncommon for me.

Most of my meals are stir fried veggies and tofu or seitan over some kind of carb like brown rice, whole grain pasta, stuff like that. The seasonings exact veggies are what varies, could be a homemade curry sauce or just some herbs, red wine vinegar and olive oil. Sometimes I throw it on top of greens instead and toss it w/a yummy dressing and add some sunflower seeds. But yeah – that what I eat most often for weeknight dinners.

Thanks for sharing...I've never had a portobello. Never really liked mushrooms in general, until maybe 3 years ago when my buddy made kebobs on the grill...steak/yellow peppers/red onions/white mushrooms glazed with teriyake sauce.

Could not get enough of that!!! foodnow

Y'know what's great for dinner? Breakfast. Pancakes or waffles...sausages...bacon...(and eggs, if you like them).

I've never cooked breakfast for dinner, but we used to often hit IHOP for dinner and the kids (and sometimes the ex) would order breakfast items.

I like my breakfast sweet (pancakes/french toast/waffles) and my dinner savory.

Ostrich is ten times more delicious than Bison. Bison is good it's just not Ostrich. For those who haven't tried Ostrich, it taste like the best and leanest (cow) steak you have ever had.

iHop is giving away free short stacks til 10pm.

I always cook something different, but I can't say it's exotic since I'm use to cooking for folks with complete different preferences, going too far out the box always ended up in a headache.
