Can you trust the food you buy? I'm upset after I was this documentary by a Norwegian producer. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

First of all, it's more expensive. Secondly, if you have to read all the labels on everything you buy, you get so confused that you don't know what to buy anymore.

How do you know biololigal food is really biologial?

This is very true! it's kind of a sad fact... but NONE OF US know if we can trust what we buy. I know people who really watch who and what they buy. And they look at every single ingredient... i don't think you can 100% trust where any food comes from. You don't see the people make it... you never know Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

The products that I do buy in mainstream supermarkets, I have checked for ingredients and fairtrade.
Fortunately, supermarkets know that consumers decide on their policy, so on their websites they explain their policy and when I have a question, i just e-mail.
I'ts a lot of work in the beginning, but now that I know what products I can trust, I feel very glad I invested that time.

Eat corn that is yellow? MODIFIED.
Eat oragnge carrots? MODIFIED.
Apples that are sweet and not bitter? MODIFIED. I can go on and on with examples.
In NATURE plants adapt, quickly, they change, they hybridize themselves, and man has helped that process along for CENTURIES!!!!!!!
So ANY food we eat, grains/veggies/fruit... has already adapted to our needs, or the needs of the plant eaters around the plants. Fruit is sweet, so we can eat the fruit... it is also colorful and scented to be pleasuable to us. TO US! How does a plant know this? Well, somehow it does and we are trained to like fruit, sweetness, the scents so we can eat that fruit and poop the seeds, thereby ensuring the continuation of that plant elsewhere.
It is a partnership centuries in the making. Plants will keep adapting, we need not do much to move that process along.

So the scare tactics of people with this "modified foods" OH MY!!! Well, I am not going to stress over it. We BTW spread more poison on ourselves with one bottle of lotion or antipersperant and we are concerned with a modified meal?
Cancer? MS? Any other disease? Is that the fear?
Well guess what, you are gonna die anyways! YUP! YOU ARE GONNA DIE!!!
So grow what you can, support local farmers when you can, and stop stressing out over food because you smear toxins on your body anyway that will make any 100% organically grown vegan lifestyle moot.
You are poisoning yourself anyways. Blame your shampoo, lotion, perfume, containers, microwave, water, fertilizers, medicines... etc.
You think FOOD is the only way to keep populations down? Nope. WAT more effective and faster ways to kill folks.

The genetic modifying techniques that are used for GMO food is not even close to a natural modification proces. [youtube\http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShJTcIlTna0[/youtube] 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I haven't read all the responses but no, I don't trust anything anymore but what can we do? I try not to eat fast food and we don't buy snack cakes, chips, soda, or anything like that, but I still feel paranoid even when I'm eating "fresh" produce because I'm sure it has been tampered with, too. But hey, the air and water are probably even worse than the food so we might as well not dwell on it. Live and love as long as God allows, take care of the body you have.. that's all we can do. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

I know about that and I think its pure scare tactic stuff.
I want to see PROOF because plants can be hydridized easily, they don't need to add "animal" components to plants that already have those qualities.
For example... if soil lacks minerals a plant on its own can adapt to eat insects.... this happened naturally.
If a plant can succumb to excessive light, it can learn be touch/light sensitive and move out of the way and or flod itself up instantly upon contact... no animal needed there to modify it.
Plants can change color, size texture, growth, seed size, etc. etc. on their own... naturally. No animal genes needed.
So why add them? They will adapt on their own to any environment for the most part.

BTW... corn ANY corn is bad for you. Natural maize is gross and I would never eat it. GROSS.

GMO by scientest is a Frankenstein situation waiting to happen. Using cross pollination for hybridizing seems fair game. I think processed foods are the real danger. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

REAL maize is very starchy and doesn't taste like the corn that is yellow.
Maize isn't even sweet, its mashed potato center and I had the "Red" and "blue" corn. Good stuff I suppose that isn't "altered" but it is hard to eat. I took two bites and I was overwhelmed. They changed the corn because it was gross. They made the corn taste good. So what DJJ is getting at is the actual plants that have been modofied, even if you grow the plant from seed... the seed has been changed so much that it will basically fill you with tumors.
Now... I do not believe you have to genetically alter plants with animals to acomplish this... plants can become toxic all on their own when they suck up fertilizer alone. IMHO

I barely eat as "normal" folks do, so...I couldn't care less
I eat the same everyday: fruit, soy milk, salad, cheese, cereals + concentrated vitamins...
if I go to a restaurant I order pasta
and that's about it

I was trying for a long time to hang with the concept of only eating "real" food. It is extremely difficult, not to mention expensive. Almost all your food has to come from non-mainstream stores, which mean constantly doing a lot of traveling, and bouncing from market to stores. You must always be prepared, preparing and planning every meal which can be tedious, especially when you're inidated with tons of other tedious stuff.

My dilemma of late revolves around Fish, which as a vegetarian is/was a large part of my diet. If you've been following the run-off of Fukushima, you know that the entire western coast including California and BC - as well as Alaska has tested positive for Fukushima radiation, resulting in me pulling fish, especially Salmon from my diet. I can't even substitute 'farmed' salmon as what I am reasearching on farmed fish - is that it is heavily 'parasitic' - although I think they are cleaning it up. However, when you are buying fish from the market, it's very difficult getting an honest answer from the retailer as to where exactly the fish originates. I no longer purchase canned salmon or tuna either, which mostly hails from Thailand (not all that far from Fukushima). Radiation in a tin can.
I can hear it now - our children's children "once upon a time, they used to eat these things that swam in the oceans - called Fish". [Edited 3/17/14 16:09pm]

it may sound stupid, but I've always found cow's milk gross, other than cheese and cream... and I've read many times that once you stop being a boy/girl/young teen, soy milk is actually healthier in every aspect... I drink my coffee with cow's milk, though...

corn is a grain, grains aren't fit for human consumption think of everything they have to do to it to make it palatable - processing with heat and chemicals, GM,
why are all breakfast cereals fortified? Because otherwise you might as well eat the cardboard box you got it in - no nutritional benefit whatsoever.
