The pilot movie for legal drama “Matlock,” with Andy Griffith as criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock, aired on this day in 1986. It premiered as a series on NBC on Sept. 23, 1986 and concluded on ABC on May 7, 1995. An NBC affiliate in Iowa recently aired a Matlock movie in place of it's sitcoms repeats and got higher numbers.
