What?

They're not offering guacamole?

Can we get a link? (Too lazy to google it)

I like Chipotle but I much rather go to Moe's - or an authentic Mexican restaurant if possible.

No, no, no. They said that at some point in the future, they may not be able to offer guac because global warming.

It's just stupid.

This morning, guacamole lovers woke to headlines warning that Mexican fast-food chain Chipotle could eventually be forced to drop the dip from its menu, if changing global weather patterns continue to drive volatility in the price of avocados.

Then came this sentence that could squash a guac lover's heart:

"In the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients, we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients."

That's how I heard it this morning. T'was one of the weirdest things I've heard in a long time. How do you have a "mexican" restaurant with no guacamole, in America, that is?

But Genesia's right.

Update: In case you are wondering, there is currently no shortage of Hass avocados (the kind used to make guacamole) in the U.S., according to the Hass Avocado Board. In fact, 2014's volume is projected to be higher than last year's, Emiliano Escobedo, the board's executive director, tells The Salt via email.

It wasn't wholly Chipotle's fault. As a publicly traded company, they're required to indicate any possible supply-chain issues in SEC filings. But it was the uber-lefty group Think Progress that blew the issue up.

They may be self-pollinating. My aunt in Florida has one tree and it bears fruit.

Growing them (as in the pic above) is very easy. My mom used to do it ALL the time...but they don't survive in winter.

My lopsided theory, here individuals seem to do pretty well at growing fruit producing avocado trees, in the city a huge percentage of our trees are eucalyptus and they thrive well. So by association your tree should do well.

I think I'd be more concerned if Chipotle made an announcement that they were going to roll back their prices to the mid-2000s heydey smile

Winter where, on Long Island? It doesn't even get down to freezing here.
Next doors has a tree in their front yard which won't bear fruit
