Chia Seeds Are they suppose to make you thirsty?
I know they are suppose to hydrate, but I seem to get thirsty. I put them in these little cheap muffins I make for breakfast during the week, mostly cause it ups the fiber content of the muffin, they seem to be easy on my stomach, and there's suppose to be a whole lot of other benefits, yada, yada, yada. But I just downed like 30 oz. of water after eating them and am about to down more. Which is good because I dehydrate all the time.
Yes, I know they're the same seeds used on Chia pets. |

Maybe it was just one of those things. I see one is supossed to drink a lot of water when consuming them. As I said they seem to work out really well for me as far as not being an irritant so I'll keep it up and see if getting thirsty keeps happening. |

That's interesting because in Central America there's a drink called "Chan" that incorporates chia seeds.

I wonder if you get the same benefits. I try to avoid sweet drinks like the plague because it is a definite downfall for me. For example, Starbucks for me is a treat not a lifestyle, I learned the hard way. I seem to put on weight at a fast rate just downing sugary drink as oppose to just eating sugary foods. |

The seeds or the plant? I just wanted the seed to add to the muffins to add fiber. We get so little fiber in our quickie foods. It was something quick, cheap and easy. Turns out there are a whole lot of other benefit, too. I just thought it was interesting that I seem to have a desire, maybe not a true thirst, to drink a lot of water after eating them. |

I was talking about sprouting the seeds...don't worry, I was expressing the issue of chia seeds on a more 'raw foody' health level...for your uses, well all seeds are hard to digest...they just pass right through you...as insoluble fibre, if that's what you want...added to water chia seeds of course become gelatinous and have the same effect in the body as pieces of aloe vera... |

That's cool, I haven't progressed that far in my eating habits yet, just trying to figure out a quick healthy as possible breakfast since a lot of things upset my tummy. Even though I do love sprouts and stuff. |

I've never heard of them making people abnormally thirsty, but when ingesting more fiber you are supposed to have more water as well; so maybe drinking more is a good idea... I'd talk to a doc if you start to feel weird or the thirst is insatiable though. Something else may be going on inside of you.
If you will, so will I |
