Iconic films you haven't seen

I think I'm highly unusual as I've not seen The Blues Brothers or Spinal Tap or even Citizen Kane.

Am I missing out? I only saw Pulp Fiction two years ago!

This disturbs me...I feel I should have watched these by now and I'm missing out on some cultural touchstones.

What do you think you should have watched by now but for some reason you haven't?

Man, this thread is great! Thank youuu

Well, gotta say that when you decide to see a movie you know it just captured your attention and convicned you, sometimes there are movies that I anticipate from a long time but when they get overhyped and everyone starts talking about them I just don't see 'em, like Man of Steel last year.

Anyway, I stan hard for Kubrick but as a matter of fact I only saw The Shining & Full Metal Jacket & Barry Lyndon, never seen 2001, or Dr Strangelove and his other stuff, I really want to see them especially 2001 and A Clockwork of Orange but can't for no reason, I'm just scared I don't give those movies what they deserve and pay full attention.

Also never seen anything by Hitchcock but Psycho... The man is obviously a genius but I just feel I need time to watch his stuff... Not that I don't dig golden era movies in fact I'm a big fan of Metropolis, 12 Angry Men and other masterpieces.

Excpet of these two I fairly say I've seen the beauty of cinema a long time ago and I wish I can pull off a "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind" type of idea and forget everything I saw so I can watch these films again... They're so amazing.

You guys have reminded me I've not seen Clockwork Orange or Psycho either! Nor Heat.

I DID see The Deer Hunter last month as it's a 'classic'. Oh dear..I absolutely hated it, to the point where I fast forwarded it and I'm very tolerant! How over-rated was that film??

Maybe iconic films aren't automatically 'must see' after all.

Not that I'd necessarily agree that all of these are "iconic", but I've never seen these films named earlier in the thread:

Gone With The Wind

Silence of the Lambs

Blade Runner

Two Towers and Return of The King

12 Angry Men

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf

The Wild One

From Here to Eternity

The Shining

Full Metal Jacket

Barry Lyndon

Dr Strangelove

Metropolis
Titanic

Doctor Zhivago

Pink Flamingos

Lawrence Of Arabia

Raging Bull

I've seen parts of these:

The Graduate

The Sound of Music

2001: A Space Odyssey

And I have never seen any of the Godfather movies. biggrin

The only one that comes to mind is Citizen Kane. I forgot why but somethings I've heard people say over the last few years have lead me to the conclusion that for me this particular classic is past it "awe" factor, so I've made no effort to see it.

I agree about Crash. It's just racist people yelling at each other. It's not art. lol

I just watched the Godfather for the first time in 2012. I had to watch it twice and still don't understand all the praise that's heaped on it. I still haven't seen the rest of the Godfather series.

I saw Casino for the first time last month and loved it.

I still need to see The Untouchables and Goodfellas. I'll get around to seeing them eventually but I'm in no rush...

You are definitely missing out with "Spinal Tap". Watch it immediately!

As for me, if you ask Sexton or damosuzuki what are the 50 best movies they've ever seen, those are probably the 50 most iconic movies I've never seen.

Those guys' movie-watching abilities are so far above mine that it's not even funny.

I agree on "The Godfather". I didn't see the big deal either, but it was probably way ahead of its time. Kind of like "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I remember how much I loved that movie, and then I rented it for the kids. They thought it was lame, and compared to all the CGI these days, I could see how they thought so.

But "Goodfellas' on the other hand...I avoided that one too until last week. Guess what?

It's great! I really enjoyed it, and understand exactly why it's always on Best Movies lists.

I've never seen a Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Twilight movie. I only saw that horrible "Catching Fire" movie under duress.

I've also only seen the first three "Star Wars" movies - episodes 4, 5 and 6, right? I've never seen any of the later "Star Wars" movies, and have no desire to.

Have NOT seen:

"E.T."

"Fargo"

"O Brother Where Art Thou?"

"Dead Man Walking"

"Monster"

"Monster's Ball"

"8 Mile"

"The Artist"

"Avatar"

"Casablanca"

"The Sound of Music"

And, oddly enough, I HAVE seen every one of the movie's on Ace's list (reply #11) he says he's not seen.

(Say what???)

curious reaction; Raiders is def a savage, realistic festival of bloody violence...

I think CGI is changing the perception of kids regarding what is truly violent and what is not...

What's sad is I've seen pretty much all these movies at some point in my life but I don't quite recall the details of some of them, maybe the overall storyline but not those "to talk about" details. I get tempted sometimes to go back, but I've found a lot movies to be laborous to get through as a rewatch, while others I get a renewed prespective. Wish I knew which each one would be before revisiting it.

I have watched the first two Godfather films. Maybe I pay too much attention, but the street fight in the first film after the guy's wife gets approached (spoiler) contains the worst false punch ever!!

Like..a clear two inches of space between fist and face. Watch it back, you'll be amazed. And THIS won an Oscar??
