Do you prefer couscous, rice or pasta?

What is your preferance if any at all...I am just eating cous cous with Moroccan Chicken and just wondered, I never cook cous cous but pasta, rice and potatoes are regularly included in my diet...

yay!

Pasta... plain old bog-standard run of the mill pasta lick
JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

I like Rice. Not plain white rice though. Either wild rice or Basmati rice. Cous Cous is great too if cooked properly. Then whole wheat pasta.

I used to eat so much couscous, I went off it in the end. I was the same with rice, I eat it every now and then, but only basmati and only fried first. Me wants seperate grains thanx, not a big stodgey clump.
Nowadays, pasta is hogged in larrrge quantities. I'm also getting into egg noodles, try them, with a little olive oil and soy sauce sprinkled on after they are done. Rice noodles are ok too, but with a pasta sauce.

Most days, I have pasta. I know its boring, but I love it and it is not all that expensive either.

Nahhh... I felt ill at the thought of sending rice in the post to WB. I was imagining the stench as he opened the packet up to find probably week old rice!

Have you misunderstood me, or have I misunderstood you? Or have you misunderstood me and I haven't misunderstood you, and then you are about to misunderstand me again and then... confuse

Not necessarily. Pasta is basically just white bread in a different form. It's high in empty calories and carbohydrates, with little nutrients, unless you eat whole-grain pasta.

But I still love it.

Yeah, I was just referring to his comment about pasta being heathier. Rice is also mostly carbohydrates. So, it's the same, and of course brown rice is healthier. But it tastes like crap. lol

Follow these instuctions for perfect rice.

YOU WILL NEED - BASMATI RICE. SOY SAUCE. WATER. OIL.

1) 1/2 a mug of rice per person. DO NOT WASH IT.
2) Select a pan.
3) Turn the heat to full and add a little olive oil.
4) When the pan is hot, but not boiling, add the rice.
5) Keep turning the rice, don't leave or it will stick to pan.
6) Keep turning until either you can smell the rice cooking, or it has gone from see through to a whiter colour.
7) At this point, the pan and rice will be hot. Now, chuck loads of soy sauce all over the rice. IMMEDIATLY AFTER DOING THAT put 1 cup of water per half cup of rice over it all.
8) Stir ONCE.
9) Turn the heat to the half way mark.
10) Cover and leave it alone. DO NOT STIR!!! THIS IS V. IMPORTANT.
11) It ought to be done in 10 minutes. To check if it is, stick a knife in and gingerly 'part' the rice to check if there is any water in the bottom of the pan. It should look dry. If it doesn't, take the lid off, and keep it on the heat for another few mins.
12) Serve.
