One of my cats has started pissing on my brand new stove and refrigerator. WTF??? The stove is gas and has two cast iron grids that cover the gas burners on the stove top. The fridge is a double door stainless steel model. My old appliances were the regular 4 burner stove top and a regular white fridge with the freezer on the top. The cat never bothered those, but as soon as I spend $20,000 on a new kitchen remodel with all new appliances, one of them decides my stove top and fridge doors were a good place to pee and spray. I have a feeling it is the one non neutered male. I have five other cats that are all fixed, one female and four other males. I don't think it's any of them because they don't jump up on the counter like this one lil pisser does. Anyone else have cats that spray or pee in odd areas? I'm gonna have to send him to the shelter because I cannot tolerate cat piss on my kitchen appliances and furniture. That shit gives me an instant headache from my blood pressure rising, I get so upset. And lord help me if he pees somewhere where I cannot easily see it. Sometimes I have to get on all fours like a damn dog and sniff all around the baseboards and furniture to find the pee. I've also invested in a "Stink Finder." It's a portable black light that illuminates any trace of urine, but I have to wait until the room is dark enough for the light to show the pee and by that time my head is splitting open. Then I have to go through the cleaning ritual: hot soapy cloth to blot up the pee or stain and then use baking soda to sprinkle over the area, rub it in and let it sit overnight. The next day I vacumn the rug, if that's where the pee was, and then treat the area with one of those urine neutralizer enzyme sprays, which are not cheap. Again, any others with this problem, and if so, did you get it corrected or get rid of the cat?

Had a cat that did that. Its really lovely when you don't realize

it happened and you turn on the stove. There is nothing like

cooked cat piss to start you morning off.

The cat was sick. She had cistitus. Why that made her piss on the

stove I don't know. She died very young. This was back in the

70s and the vet had no clue how to cope with her cistitus.

Also have a cat that will piss on things when he is mad. Problem is

figuring out what he is mad about. Had to throw out carpeting, pillows, dog beds

before we realized he was unhappy with his litter box set-up.

Had a cat years ago that got mad if we went away and he would wait

for us to come back and then he would take a crap in the middle of

the bedroom.

I'm thinking the problem is that he is not neutered and being in the house with five other cats might be making him mark his ground. He's a sweet cat and the only one out of the bunch that comes when called. And since he's also the newest member of the brood and the youngest, this peeing might be territorial. I just got rid of another whole male cat I had taken in that peed on the new kitchen counters and stove. He also peed in the electrical outlet. I thought the house was gonna catch on fire because the outlet was hissing and sparking and smoking. Thank God it was one of those safety boxes with the cirucuit breaker. The power to the stove and fride was knocked out. I was afraid my house was gonna catch on fire so he had to go. I saw his picture on the county shelter web site, so I know he'll probably get adopted. He was really a sweet lil fella, but he would fight my other cats and with the spraying problem, it wasn't happening.

If you have a non-neutered male that's totally it. You need to have him fixed and most likely your problem will be solved.

If that doesn't do it, someone's sick. It's generally their way of telling you.

The main other thing to do is make sure you have enough litter boxes for all cats (which means you have one per cat in your household plus another one) and they are all cleaned daily.

hasn't cleaned her litter box in TWO WEEKS? My guess is whoever

wrote this commercial doesn't have a cat since no cat I know would

continue to use a box that was that filthy. Unless the litter box

was the size of a football field. If I let the liiter box go for two days

my little kitty takes a crap outside the box so I get the message.

My cats actually aren't that picky so I can go a few days, but many are. The first thing to do when having the problem is ensure you have pristine boxes and enough for all to go around.

I had an issue with one peeing all over and it turned out she was sick. Had surgery and never had a problem ever since.

This isn’t necessarily a matter of neutering or a sick cat. I had an awful experience years ago. I took in two male brothers as kittens. They were neutered as soon as possible. Over the years, they grew to be competitive. Around the ages of five/six years old, they both started spraying in my apartment. They would back up to my furniture, stick their tales straight up to the ceiling and quiver while ejecting urine out in a spray. I loved the cats dearly and plunged headlong into fixing the problem. I took the cats to their vet and they checked out fine. Both were healthy. I wasted a lot of money on special cleaning products that didn’t work. I followed what the vet suggested for maybe six or either months. I had two litter boxes already but added another. The vet had me giving them pills daily to try to manage their anxiety. I bought expensive cat trees and toys to keep them from being bored. I separated them from each other and gave them separate spaces in the apartment. I researched online and tried everything.

My vet said that “improper elimination” and spraying are two different things. My cats had behavioral issues. They were in competition with each other and they were spraying to mark their territory. “Improper elimination” is different. The vet said that if a cat isn’t spraying, but is squatting to pee in inappropriate places, then that is more likely to indicate that they are trying to get your attention due to a sickness or disapproval of litter box setup. I remember having read somewhere online that cats will sometimes disapprove of new things in their territory and they express that by peeing on it.

I don’t know. I never found a solution for my cats. They ruined most of my furniture and left the apartment stinking. I can tell you with confidence that I tried most everything to get the smell out and it’s impossible. It broke my heart to do it, but I had them put to sleep. You can’t find a good home for cats that spray.

You could start with getting the guy fixed and checked for health issues, but if that doesn’t help, you might find yourself in a world of hurt when his scent triggers your other cats to start up too. That’s how mine began. One started spraying to mark things and after awhile, the other started spraying to cover his. Miserable, miserable experience. I hope you’re able to find a solution. Whenever we get a new cat we always get a female.

And at six months they get fixed.

Although the last one went into heat at four months.

So that plan doesn't always work.

I had a male cat. He was neutered. He was pure HEAVEN! The epitome of class (probably because he listened to a lot of Nancy Wilson). NEVER went outside of his litter box. But, I never went more than a couple of days without cleaning his litter box. Any longer than that is just disgusting. I liken it to asking a human being to use a toilet that hasn't been flushed in several days. Maybe there are some people who wouldn't mind but I know I certainly would!

I did adopt a female cat once who went outside of the litter box and was really mean. It was an adult cat so I didn't know what kind of abuse the poor thing may have sufferred before coming to me and unfortunately, I didn't have the time to work with her so I had to return her to the shelter. I also, for a couple of years, had two male cats at the same time. Though there was a lot of fighting and "que es mas macho" going on, they never sprayed.

So, if he's neutered, has a clean litter box and is healthy, I'm not sure why he would be urinating on your kitchen appliances. Too bad you can't call that guy from "My Cat From Hell" to help you figure out why. There is usually a reason why cats are "misbehaving". Or he could very well have mental problems. Dogs and cats can have neurological issues. And it could be something as simple as he, for some reason, doesn't dig the scent of the new appliances. If you are particularly attached to the cat and have the money, I would suggest maybe consulting a cat behaviorist.

That's exactly what I was going to say too. If the cat gets "fixed" or neutered, then the spraying should stop. I would hate to see a cat get surrendered to the shelter for something that can be remedied.

I've seen that commercial, and have thought the same thing. No way that a person can let a litter box go for two whole weeks without scooping it out. #1, the cat will refuse to use it (can't say I blame him/her) and #2, the smell would be awful! My cats crap/pee in the bath tub if I let the box get too dirty, but I don't mind. It's easier to clean cat crap/pee out of the bath tub than it is to clean a carpet or a piece of furniture.

I watch that show all the time and I love it! It's amazing how Jackson Galaxy can figure out how a cat thinks and why a cat does what it does. He's a "cat whisperer" for sure.

I'm also guessing your cat is reacting to an uncomfortable new imposition on an environment he considered his own. You should have asked his permission before the reno. Seems he's now claiming (or reclaiming) his territory, which, as has been mentioned, isn't unusual for intact males.

There are a few things you can try:

* First, consider neutering his butt. It won't be as effective as if he'd been fixed prior to sexual maturity, but this may help curb the spraying and, as has been mentioned, the possibility of the other cats being triggered into competition. Moreover, if he does continue to spray from time to time, it won't smell as pungent.

* Make the areas in question as unpleasant as possible for him to frequent. When you see him hanging out near your fridge or on your stovetop, immediately (but surreptitiously, if possible) spray him with water, make a scary noise, or simply pick him up and move him. When you can't be home, you might consider laying down double-sided tape or cellophane wrap in areas you don't want him to walk. There are commercial motion-detecting sprayers you can buy, and I've also heard many cats hate the smell of citrus. Consider, then, some sort of orange or lime essential oil or commercial spray that might deter him. Eventually, he'll get the idea that these particular areas are places to avoid.

* Have a vet recommend an over-the-counter anti-anxiety pheromone to use in the problem areas. Or, in particularly bad cases, a prescription med.

I visited friends last week, who have a female and a male non-fixed cat. He smelled my bag and jeans (I have male cat) all the time.

Then he started spreeing on an electric device on the sink. He never did that before, so it probably was a reaction to mark his territory. Just to make sure I got his message


So, if the only thing that has changed is your kitchen, he probably wants to mark your devices as his. Maybe cutting his balls does help.

Yes, non-neutered cats are vicious.

There was a ginger one who would fight with my cat IN MY HOUSE! He was extremel aggressive and pissed around my house like a crazy drunk.

I wrote a note to his owners that they had to get him fixed, and that I thought is was irresponsible of them to let him outside non-neutered.

Same here. My cat is a true gentleman!

When he wants attention, he will sit next to me and lay his paw on my arm with a sweet little miauw.

He does not wake me up, he will wait till I open my eyes and then he will rub his head to my head. And gently caresses my cheeck. Unfortunately he sometimes forgets to withdraw his nails.

He comes when I call him and he takes the defending of our territory very seriously. He's very busy all day watching out of the windows to see if there's any enemy movement he has to deflect.

And when I go to the bathroom, he'll sit in front of the door, on the lookout.

And he loves to listen to Prince, classical music and deep house.

Thank you all very much. I spent about an hour last night going over the entire house with a black light finding all the places they had sprayed or peed. Every room in the damn house was affected! The balck light really works in illuminating the pee and spray spots. I can tell whether they squated or sprayed just by the stain pattern the light reveals. Fortunately I had some of that urine enzyme that takes out the stain and the smell. The trick is that you must completely saturate the stain with the enzyme. I used it in a quart sized squirt bottle and while holding the black light over the stains, I could see exactly where to apply the enzyme, and the stains and smells disappear almost instantaneouly. Most of the areas affected were the carpeting. Thank God they had not peed on my brand new living room furniture. It's covered with "Scat Mats," which emit a slight electrical shock when they jump up on the sofa, love seat, recliner and dining room table. I guess I shoudl get one for the stove top, too.

I am going to check the sheletr to see if they have a neutrering event going on where I can get him fixed at a discount. I just cant see paying a vet $160 to lazer little kittie nuts.

Come to think of it, one of my other males might be trying to tell me something because he peed on me! I was in bed lying on my side. I felt one of the kitties jump up on the bed, which I allow. Then all of a sudden I felt this warm, wet sensation on my back. Spunky Monkey was peeing on me! I made an appointment to take him to the vet. I know he must not be feeling up to snuff.
