Sorry, I should have been clearer: I mean a word to describe a guy with this feature.

Not specific enough to describe the beard thing.

You're in the ballpark, too, Supes! The first word that came to mind, in my exhausted and confused state, was "swarthy". But I don't think that's correct, either.

Swarthy is more of a overall build.

If you say someone is shadowed, I'd probably think George Michael lol or Don Johnson or if you said when Prince went around shadowed. I would envision Grafitti Bridge.

hmmm

Ace, I'm not sure I've ever heard a particular word to describe a guy like this. We could maybe come up with something close, though...

whiskered

hirsute

stubbly

shaggy

barbate (though only an English professor would know this one smile )

I've heard the term "permanent 5 o'clock shadow," so I suppose you could describe a guy with one as "a guy with a... " shrug

Or a guy who is simply shadowed. Accompanied by a gesture to the face, anyone would envision a 5 o'clock shadow?

Hirsute to me suggests back hair. lol Just lots of hair. Back stubble is worse than back hair.

Stubbly, meh. First personal connotation is overweight. lol

Whiskered suggests Englishman in a top hat. lol Or mutton chops. smile

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

You're right. These all kind of suck, don't they? confused

idea2 I think we should coin a new term for this very specific use! SUPRMAN, you're smart. Is there any way we can make money off of this!?!? deal

...Just sayin'.

Maybe hot as hell (As I'm almost always hot.), but swarthy is not an adjective I'd use for me.

I'll settle for the Org's other fancy lesbian.

You couldn't copyright it. It isn't the facial hair itself. You're only describing it. It only has value if people use it, but since you couldn't enforce a copyright if it became popular, it would be worthless.

Kleenex, and Q-tips for example, are brands that now describe a group of products, rather than a brand. Even though they hold the copyright. They don't sue everyone who calls a tissue a Kleenex. If you can't sue everyone, a court isn't going to let you sue deep pockets.

You can't trademark it because you can't prevent anyone from growing it, and since it grows naturally and it's the individual's face with the hair, they are free to wear it as they see fit subject to reasonable safety and work requirements.

hmmm, it's not right after a close shave...

that beard (which I personally call "shadow beard" or "gray filth beard") usually appears after 18-24 hours...
