If you get your raise, use it to join everyone in Amsterdam this spring.

I will be in Germany for the last week of March/first week of April.

Then you will be in Amsterdam by yourself. lol Maybe it's different in Thailand, but now that you are back in the U.K., you should know that summer solstice for the rest of the Northern Hemisphere isn't until June 21st. razz

Thailand's in the northern hemisphere too. The seasons are completely different though, granted.

Summer whatstice? June is just considered summer here in the UK, never spring.

The good news is I have a very good rapport with my boss (and she confides in me a LOT) so talking to her will not be difficult. I'm more nervous about how the big guns will react when she goes to them on my behalf.

Do the big guns know you and your efforts?

If your boss is okay with a raise, you might want to discuss her strategy with her
toward the big guns, with her.

Make sure that she can be succesfull. So provide her with your tangible successes and acomplishments. Make sure she knows what to say when she's asked why they should give you a raise in stead of taking on cheaper labor.

What kind of information and arguments would matter to these big guns?

What's in it for them to give you a raise?

First step is your boss, but most important is to motivate your boss to succesfully negotiate a raise for you.

...and I have never had to do this before.

Any advice as to the best way to do it?

I'm a little nervous....but the bottom line is that

I can no longer afford to stay in this position unless I get a substantial raise.

Can you provide your boss with tangeable arguments that she should give you a raise, in stead of hiring cheaper labour?

Do you have a negotiation strategy?

For example, make it clear that you will reject and/or dispose the extra work you took on, if you don't get the raise.

And if you don't get the raise, discuss how you she will releive you from that extra load you have taken on in the past 2 years.

Do you think that is an option?

Just so you can say "I have been here X years" and not "coming up on my anniversary in a couple weeks blahblah" ?

Pretty much, considering most businesses do reviews/raises each year.

I've only ever had one...after my 3 month probation period. neutral
