I disagree bout Insurrection. It would have made an great episode, but the story wasn't really movie material. Insurrection just plain sucked.

Hey, I kind of liked the concept of Nemesis, now whether it would have been a better episode than movie, I don't know, I just liked it best out of all the TNG movies. Seems like most sci-fi tv shows to movies don't do well in the transition.

I messed up I meant that Nemesis just plain sucked. My bad.

For a Trekkie fan, I've never seen these movies either. I just stuck to the episodes.

That's the reason I'm perusing this thread, to get titles of classic movies. I'm not a movie buff of classics but I always hear people quoting them like they had such impact on their lives. That makes me curious to want to see some of them. confused

Was it boring?
I want to watch some of those classics but sometimes I think they look boring compared to the movies now. I'm hoping I'm wrong on some of them at least.

They are generally a slow pace compared to today's movies. So, if you can get passed that (and some sexiest and racist crap-because of the times) you can enjoy the movies.

DZ and LOA are both extremely slow paced films. But, I love "The Balcony", although slow paced, it fits the story. Yet in that film we get a early 1960's lesbian kiss in a film that essentially takes place in a whore house.

LOL actually, that's on my list!

The Color Purple is a great movie and it's like watching a book on film.

black person here...HATED IT (*cue men on film voice*). a few years back, my cousin and aunt had tix for the play and they ask me to come. i told them to ask my other aunt, and only if she said no, i would grit my teeth and come. fortunately for me, she went. a few months ago i came across it on cable during the dinner scene and i laughed b/c my dear friend (who is a gay latino from miami) loves this movie and that scene in particular. i laughed b/c i could hear him quoting whoopi, mannerisms and all.

for what's worth, i love casablanca. i don't think it's boring, though i guess compared to today's standards it would be considered "slow". at least three common expressions people use every day come from that film. also, the maltese falcon is one of my favorites and that's much faster paced than casablanca. lots of witty dialogue, and peter lorre as the gay crook is very good. i would encourage you to get past the "boring" aspect of some classic films. i used to feel that way about westerns, but i broaded my horizons and was pleasantly surprised. i love "the searchers" and "the man who shot liberty valance".

Really? What?

1. play it again, sam (actually a misquote, but people say it all the time).

2. i'm shocked, shocked to find.... (or some variation of that, meant as a mocking expression when you're not really shocked. in the film, the corrupt louie closes down rick's gambling joint, saying that he is "shocked to find gambling going on in this establishment". within seconds, an employee comes up to him to hand him his winnings.)

3. this looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

4. here's looking at you, kid.

okay, maybe not common expressions, but certainly quotables that people use in conversations all the time.
