Neither nor, unfortunately! The Chinese won't acknowledge it as a sovereign state (after decades of oppression), but most people consider it a country nevertheless!

Right. Completely forgot about them, when somebody mentions "Asia" I immediately think of South-Eastern Asia, with the most Western point probably being India or Dubai at a stretch.
