March Madness The brackets have just been revealed, and all of my teams have tough roads to go, if they even made it.
First: Tennessee (17-11, 9-7 SEC) didn't get in, but Alabama (with a losing conference record and horrible finish to the season) and Auburn (laughable non-conference schedule and 8-8 conference record) does? Utah at a nine seed? I could see as low as a 7, but a NINE? They were RPI #17! What the heck is up with that? sportsline.com, collegerpi.com and espn.com all had Utah as a 4 or 5 seed as of this morning. Utah behind Cincinnati (who finished with a thud but got an 8 seed), Indiana (who apparently needed to beat Michigan in the Big 10 quarterfinals just to be in but managed a 7 seed), California, LSU, Michigan St. and LSU? Utah also gets to face the toughest 8 seed, Oregon, who I believe is underseeded. Oregon played a REALLY tough schedule and won the Pac-10 tournament. And barring a miracle, whoever wins the Utah/Oregon game will have to play Kentucky (the highest number 1 seed) in the next round. Xavier got the correct seed at number 3, but face a potential matchup with Maryland in the second round from the 6 seed. Maryland seems WAY underseeded at number 6 as it is, plus they are the defending national champions. It looks like none of my teams will make the Sweet 16 this year. I was also shocked by BYU being a number 12 seed. The Mountain West is the sixth rated conference in the nation, AHEAD of the Pac 10. BYU tied for the regular season championship and boasted a final RPI of 19, but fell all the way to a number 12 seed. In fact, either BYU or Butler was the last at-large team allowed in. I figured BYU to be somewhere between a 7 and a 9-seed, but number 12? Please! I was also shocked that the Big East only got 4 teams in. Boston College won the East division and did fairly well in the Big East tournament. Seton Hall played a BRUTAL non-conference schedule and finished very hot. Both Alabama and Auburn got in before either of them? The one positive thing about the brackets is the presence of the mid-majors. Butler, Gonzaga and Southern Illinois are all legitimate entries in the tournament. Overall, though, I feel like the field is not representative of the best 34 at-large teams and I feel the seeding is very questionable.

Yes I do! My teams have not been doing well lately, though, on the college or NBA level.
