Lost weight eating McDonalds

John Cisna, a science teacher at Colo Nesco school in Colo Iowa who did a Supersize Me diet for 90 days and actually lost 37 pounds.

I love how they did a reverse photo. The first one is the AFTER picture, the second is the BEFORE picture.

In an update to to the 2004 documentary "Super Size Me," in which filmmaker Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald's for 30 days with appalling consequences to his health, an Iowa teacher found the trick to losing 37 pounds and drastically lowering his cholesterol by only eating McDonald's for three months.

The supersized difference was that Joe Cisna exercised for 45 minutes a day and plotted a sensible calorie intake through planning Meals at McDonald's.

I couldn't do this myself. I have strong texture and taste issues, McDonalds is okay sometimes but not everyday. Not for me. But I do have to admire the guy.

Is that the one about people becoming addicted to the sugar and fat content of fast food so they end up craving it more, which means they end up eating more of it?

BS. The reason the dude lost weight was that he actually got off his fat ass and started to exercise.

It does point out one of the holes in Spurlock's case study, which is that it is POSSIBLE to choose low calorie options at McDeath. The problem with America eating itself to obesity has more to do with our personal choices about the food we eat than the place we get it.

But God, McDonalds food is mostly awful! Who would want to eat that every day?

Yeah, I think that what the teacher was trying prove. It would be interesting if a broader study could be done, but it never will. And I agree with you I don't see eating fast food, 3x a day, everyday appealling in the least. Heck, onee a day, everyday either. But there are a lot of people who do, shockingly.

Whoa! To have that amount of fat dumped into your system all at the same time. You're a brave person.

There's NO WAY I could eat that much. In fact, I've never even eaten ONE Big Mac let alone THREE at one sitting. Glad I came back to this thread. I woudn't want everyone to think I have the appetite of a large swine. lol pig

I am sure you all know that Supersize Me! Was fabricated.

All I know about this is was he set limits on how much ate and was as blanced as one can be at McD's.

I assume he was also more active.

But either way good for him for becoming more healthy. I hope he can stick to it.

Naw, I didn't think you were serious. I was poking at you. poke

Now I know there are those that eat 3 Big Macs, but I have to admit I've never seen anyone do it with my own eyes.

Three Big Macs is a heckuva lotta food. However, 3 large fries, a super sized soda & a large hot fudge sundae on top of the 3 BMs is over the top (IMO). lol

no, it actually debunks the addiction side of things.

Mainly it's a guy (a comedian) who goes on a mcdonalds diet like morgan spurlock, but like the guy in the OP, he eats roughly 2000 cals a day and goes for a walk each evening.

He stays away from the soda, bread and fries for the most part.

Loses heaps of weight.

It's a good documentary that shows how sugar and fat impact the body.

Sugar VERY much, and fat not so much.

Oh okay, then I don't think I've seen it. I'll have to check it out.

I had a experience many years ago, rushing someone to the hospital who'd doubled over in pain at a bbq. Thought they'd ruptured their appendex. Turns out their gallbladder was over stimulated because they had eaten too much fat for their body at one time. Their body just couldn't process that much fat at once. They were fine, no realmedical attention needed, they just learned a very painful lesson. We all did. Same with everything, you dump too much of it in your body and it'll go haywire. We all know that people have died from drinking too much water at one time. Nothing's more harmless than water.

Morgan Spurlock's film was a lie. The movie that comedian made was more realistic to what was really going on with why people got fat. Mickey D's is not to blame lol

I think the difference here is a bunch of 20 something year olds up against a 30 something year old.

I think you could still have issues on a 5,000+ calorie a day diet, eating "healthy". Susan Powter, and excercise guru from the 90s will tell you that, she has pictures.

yeahthat I honestly can't picture someone losing weight eating McDonald's food. Unless if you just ate their salads at every meal, but even then, I have my doubts.

Some of their salads can be worse than their burgers and fries as far as calories go.

As long as you watch your sugar intake you CAN find some edible stuff at McDonald´s. wink

It´s the sugar that makes you fat. Sure, the fat and the sodium also play a part but the sugar and the increased insulin levels are very fattening.

*

I don´t eat at McDonald´s unless I really have to (for instance when I´m very hungry before I hit the gym), and when I do eat there I only order two McDouble burgers and a diet Coke, no fries, no sugary stuff, etc. One McDouble contains 26 grams of protein and has fat in it, but much less than, say, a BigMac. I can´t even stand the taste of a BigMac or Quarterpounder, and the fries taste very bland, so I don´t eat most of the fattening stuff anyway, and even the McDouble is not really a healthy option but it does the job. I can eat two of those and still do my workout, whereas most of the bigger burgers just give me stomach pain.

Some of the grilled chicken salads are also low in fat and sugar if you don´t go crazy with the dressing.

I´m starting to sound like a McDonald´s spokesperson here. wink

Can´t stand McDonald´s but also can´t stand it when people make it worse than it actually is, see Morgan Spurlock.

Who is Morgan Spurlock? lol I don't think I'm making it worse than it actually is, I'm stating my personal opinion (which I have the right to do, same as you). biggrin I still don't think you can effectively lose weight eating McDonald's food. Guess we need to disagree on this. biggrin

silly me, I thought this movie had said it all and answered all the questions

eating at McDonald's is like smoking or drinking (wild party), it sure is fun once a year, but it's hardly healthy...

I'm kind of glad I can't eat there. It's just a no go zone for me.

My food intolerances make a lot of decisions for me these days.

I don't know, I kind of like their Pomergante Berry smoothies, can't drink them really but I like them. Okay, I drink one every couple of months.

I love french fries so I like practically everybody's french fries.

Their chicken wings are too dang spicy for me.
