12 Years A Slave I know that this has been mentioned before (I couldn't add a reply to the last thread)...however, this movie has just been release in the UK.
This movie is the absolute pinnacle of modern cinema. I've never been more moved, drawn-in than this motion picture. The greatest movie I've ever seen. [Edited 1/14/14 9:38am] Keenmeister

It just won a Golden Globe for best film and I thought it completely deserved it. Its not an easy story to tell, but Steve McQueen did masterfully.. Change it one more time..

Yeah that sucks, remember Seth McFarlane last year announced the nods and said that half of people awake at that hour ar either drunk or having surgery
They do that so the whole day will be about the oscars and the snubs and everything.

I liked it. Thought it was very good, but not great. The story is an incredible, moving one, but I don't think it can be captured into a film as a piece of entertainment and be an amazing film. I haven't seen the Mandela movie yet but I imagine the same goes for the duration of his incarceration. That time, that long-ass, ridiculous amount of time, cannot be distilled into a film no matter how great a film-maker you are. Sometimes art just falls short. That's how I felt about 12 Years, like it was really good, but the real greatness remains in the reality of what actually happened, and that can't quite ever be touched.
