Kindle or Nook? Which is better?

I'm looking to buy a reader, but the differences between these two models is confusing: Kindle HD offers a camera, but I didn't see any mention of a camera with the Barnes & Nobel Nook. Plus the difference in price is huge. Nook is more budget friendly, but maybe it doesn't offer as many features as the Kindle or am I missing something? Opinions please.

Oh, I guess I should mention what I want as far as features. I would like to read books/mags, take pictures and surf the net. I'm not much into games other than solitare. It would be nice to be able to watch movies, but I probably wouldn't use to to watch TV unless I didn't have access to one and just had to see a particular show.

I've read the reviews on Amazon for Kindle, and a lot of folk were pissed about the ads Amazon subjects one to. I know I don't want to be bombarded with a bunch of bait and switch ads, so I would like to be able to disable that if possible.

There is an old thread in GD that discussed the 2 at length. The real issue is back lit devices vs non back lit and Internet access wifi so you can borrow electronic books from the library.

I will probably get one in the next year.

They are comparable yet different in many ways.

I recommend that you search for "Kindle vs Nook" online and read all the different reviews and comparisons.

Then you can decide which is the better "fit".

I had gotten my son a Google Nexus7 that he dropped & broke (his mom's dog caused it).
To repair the cracked screen was just as much as the Nook HD+ 9" unit, so I got him that & he loves it.

If you buy a tablet at costco and get the insurance which lasts 2 years. THe insurance covers everything but stolen or damaging the tablet on purpose. So, if it goes in the pool/toilet/lake or you smash the screen it's all covered.

I have a kindle & love it.

My wife didn't want one but I bought

one for her anyway & she loves it.

Heard last summer that the Nook

wasn't successful and B&N was going

to drop it.

The first question is: Are you getting a tablet or a reader?

I'm not too savvy when it comes to these things. I guess I need a tablet if I want to watch movies and net surf. My brother recommended the Google Nexus 7, but I guess I should do as one poster said and read the old thread about them. The negative reviews on Amazon for the Nexus kind ot leave me suspect about it because so many folks complained about power failures and divices that froze up after a few months.

The kindle fire hd is a great tablet. I love the clear graphics, the web browsing is fast. Amazon's silk browser is okay, but I use Dolphin. you can download file explorer and flash player. Some don't like Amazon's apps but they are okay for what I need. So far I have every app on my tablet that I do on my phone with Google play. For a few extra bucks the version with touch screen assistance is available. I bought two of the hd one for myself and a Xmas present for my son. I like the carousel on it and the speakers have nice sound.

Yup - that would be a tablet. A reader is just for reading - it has a non back-lit screen, so you can use it outdoors.

I have a nook reader and an iPad tablet - which makes me of no use to you! lol

Kindle. I'm pretty sure Barnes & Noble's president quit and they've decided to stop making new nooks. Once the sell out of the ones they got (which no one seems to be buying) they're probably going to be done.

I'm doing Kindle next time around. The Nexus was fine for a starter and great for not knowing if I'd gravitate to a tablet. Had to trade it in once because the charging port got too loose to charge. I know iPad is suppose to be the way to go but I'm rebellious and must go against the grain. Besides doesn't kindle have the live technical support?
