Whats up with all these musicians singing about god?!

Seems alot of musicians I grew up admiring have abandoned their syle and switched to very trite religious lyrics these days.

We all know where Prince has gone with his religious stance. But recently I picked up the new Zwan album, and goddamnit, Billy Corgan is doing the same thing! Then I got Audioslave's album, and although its pretty good, some of the lyrics seems headed in that direction as well.

I don't want to sound like Mr. Antichrist here, but its driving me nuts. God already WAS in their music. When I look back at songs by these artists, many of which inspired me and got me through tough times, then compare it to what they are singing about now, it sucks. If I wan't boring, plastic, out-dated, one-way sermons, I'll go to church. I used to be able to turn to these musicians for some relevant and enlightening thoughts, now it seems they're gone sad .

If it's that bad there are others to listen to. You can also listen to what you create yourself.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

"Jesus Entering from the Rear" is a breath of fresh air... although it is an old song...

Artists tend to sing about what's on their mind. If an artist is at odds with religion then its his/her perogative to sing about it. Why should it be any different if they find religion? Personally, I thought the Zwan album had some of Billy's best lyrics to date. (hell of a lot better than Prince's lyrics on the same topic). This is the way an artist expresses themself, and they should have the right to do so.

The opposite can be true as well. I'm so sick of hearing Trent Reznor sing about how he hates God (and himself, and Courtney Love, and the human race) that I couldn't care less about Nine Inch Nails anymore. Any subject, if addressed over and over again, can get quite tiring. I don't think Billy has really sang about the topic enough to merit the charge that he's beating a dead horse. I don't see how singing about God is not "enlightening". Just because you disagree with it, doesn't make it irrelevant, or "plastic".

Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I thought I saw him on the video
A trance is keeping him under
I know that god is in the radio
Checkin the station
A narcotic from me to you
Just a caught in the medium
I know you hear it, I hear it too
It's everywhere that I go

You come back another day
And you do no wrong

The say the devil is paranoid
Always trying to cover
But god is leakin through the stereo
Between the station to station
You believe it, I know you do
You won't admit it or say so
I know that god is in the radio
Just repeating the slogan

You come back another day
And you do no wrong
Come back another day
And do no wrong
