My 5K thread died

Which is kind of poetic, since...so did I, running it! lol

OMG - it was so hard. It was just freezing - no way to really warm up before the race (even though I tried), so my feet felt like blocks of wood and my calves cramped up almost immediately. It was a mile-and-a-half before they relaxed and the pain subsided a bit. And then...my shoe came untied. At that point, I could only laugh about the whole thing.

I ran the whole way, though (except for the few seconds spent re-tying my shoe) - which was my original goal. I was a little bummed that I had done it faster in training (though I hadn't run the whole thing that time), but I did run a negative split, so I couldn't be too disappointed.

I'll tell you, though - my first thought upon crossing the finish line was, "I did it! woot!

And I never want to do it again. disbelief "

Well, I was going to do one at the end of April, but I found out it's actually 8K instead of 5K. Not sure I want to take it to that level - even if it is a race with free beer at the end. lol

And I decided to move my workouts to the indoor track for the winter (except for any freakishly warm days that occur). I went out on Sunday and did not enjoy dodging leftover snow and ice on sidewalks. The last thing I need is to slip and break something. I've been thinking about getting some snowshoes, though - just to change things up a little.

Of course, if I do that, we'll have the least snowy winter on record.

Snowshoes are great.

Much more fun than cross country skiing.

You can just go anywhere you want. biggrin

That's what I'm thinking. I have a couple of large open spaces in my neighborhood, so it'd be no problem to just tote my snowshoes down the street and go at it there, if I didn't want to venture any farther.

The "do it anywhere" thing is why I took up running. I hate, hate, hate being tied to a gym. I even have kettlebells and Indian clubs at home - and I take those outside. I get some fresh air - and it's a lot safer for my decor. lol

Congratulations!

The 8K in April sounds like fun - the weather should be a bit better, and there's beer!

If you plan to keep running and if you have not already get fitted for a pair of shoes. Go to a running shoe place. You want someone to watch you run to see you gait and strike and what kind of support you need. The shoes will cost about $100 and up but they make a huge difference. Once you know all that info you can get them on line for much cheaper.

And socks! And the right kind of shirt, shorts, skirt, etc....
